Periods and Birth Control

I was also on Depo for about 2 years after I had my son and I also have HPV. After I stop taking the shot, I had my period for 5 weeks straight. I had to start taking birth control pills to stop it and to "teach" my body to have regular periods again. It doesn't have anything to do with HPV. After you have the next child, try the Nuvaring. I have been SOOO pleased with it. Easy to use, inexpensive, you place it in once a month with the option of having it in for 3 or 4 weeks (and therefore no having a period at all), no side effects that I have noticed at all. Great product!

I had that happen to me when I got pregnant with my son. It's your body trying to get back to normal. Sounds like you just stopped the shot. It takes a couple of months for your body to get back to normal. The medicine is getting flushed out of your body lets say. It took me 2 months before my body got back to normal and then a month after that I got pregnant. Good luck and let me know how things work out. M. P

That depo shot screwed up my body for a good 6 or 7 MONTHS after I took it and I only had ONE shot!! My doctor said that because of the nature of the shot it takes up to 9 months to be completely out of your system which can cause all kinds of mentrual irregularities. When I took the shot I bled for 3 months straight...I had a friend who didn't have ANY period when she was on it and no problems afterward - everyone is affected differently by it. I highly doubt that the HPV has anything to do with your bleeding so I wouldn't be too worried about that aspect if it. Just keep in mind that since your body is out of whack your ovulation might not be occurring at the times it normally would so it might take a little extra time to conceive. Just give your body a little time to get back to normal and if it hasn't regulated in a few more months check with your Ob just to be safe. Good luck!

after I stopped the depo shot (I had it 3 times), I didn't get a period for 1 year and then I had to go on the pill to even get a period back (for 4 months), then after that I was able to have a regular period again. The depo shot is not for people who want to have kids anymore. I was told that AFTER I was done with it by a different doctor. He said it puts you into an early menopause (I was only 21 with no kids yet). I've been off of it for 5 years now and I have a 2 year old daughter and I am due in July with #2.

Hi T., I too suffered from your problems. Well after having my first son I went on the depo shot for a year and a half. We tried getting pregnant then stopped trying. We where happy either way. Finally when we got comfortable with our routine with our 3 1/2 yr old, we got pregnant. It took that long for my body to say okay, it's time to go. Everyone is different. On the HPV, don't stress. It seems to me that MANY women have it rather then not. As long as you continue your check-up's you should be just fine. You know the saying, the more you stress the worse it can get, you end up giving yourself more symptoms, so just relax. By the way don't try the Nuvia(something like that) ring. From what I have heard, it can cause you to have internal hemmorriging(sorry not a good speller,lol). Good luck!

I have gone thru the same thing but havenever taken any form of Biirth control. It is all natural is what they have been telling me. But then I went to a secialist and they have diagnosised me with endometriosis. I don't have any other symtoms of that though. The did this procedeure and cauterized my uterus. I Have not had a problem since. The periods are regular and no cramps or anything after that. So it may benefit you to go to you OB for some tests. I realy feel much better since the procedure.

How long have you had the bleeding? It is possible that your body is 'adjusting', but it could be something else. I would go to your OB/GYN and have a pelvic exam done, just to be sure. They can also check to be sure your body is ready for a pregnancy. You could have fibroids or something else rather benign that would cause the bleeding, and would make getting pregnant difficult. As far as having HPV, believe it or not, byt the time we're 30 90% off women have some form of HPV. There is little to be concerned with as long as you see your OB/GYN regularly. It shouldn't hurt your baby at all unless you end up getting an infection.
