okay i have not had a perod in probably a year and i finally started it last week and it does not seem like it is gonna stop any time soon. I was on the depo shot for 3 rounds then went to the pill then went off of it in january i think. but i am just wondering if any one went through this and when they stopped their first period. I have been starting to get alittle clotty the past day or so as well. and i can not wear pads at all because i just feel gross wearing them

What can I do next?

I had the same thing happen to me at age 20, when I was told the shot was better than the pill. I had to go back on the pill to stop the bleeding once it started and even then it took months to get regular. I would speak to my gyno and they can adjust the strength of your pills.

After I stopped breastfeeding and switched to a combination pill last fall I had some periods that were lasting up to two weeks at a time, very heavy, and I believe I was becoming anemic. I had a hard time keeping my head up at work, was very weak and lethargic, and had to start taking iron supplements (which I recommend if you are just starting periods again--it helped a lot).

You can find a printable menstrual chart online and keep track so if it becomes a concern you have a written history for your doctor. Mine gave me one which had "codes" for the type of flow--fully filled in for heaviest, X for regular, circle for light, and I added a dot for spotting. Mine were crazy. I have never been on the shot, so am not sure for your particular situation, but even when I went off the pill altogether I did not have regular periods before I was pregnant again.

About 12 years ago I was on the Depo. I was on the Depo for about three rounds and switched to the pill. I was on the pill for just over a year. For an entire year after that I had a period every other week. FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR! I talked to my OB/GYN who told me the only thing they could do was to put me BACK on the pill to regulate things. No other option was given and no concern was expressed on the possibility of anemia. I refused to take this route because I was concerned it would only set me back and delay the problem instead of fix it. After a year of this, my cycle did level out and become normal.

This isn't to scare anyone, but to inform them of MY experience. The Depo I took was a different formula from what is currently used, so this may never even be an issue. DEFINITELY talk to your doctor! My sister was on Mirena and didn't have her period for a year and her first one was longer and heavier than she remembered ever having. This may be normal when your body starts to regulate things on its own. Talking to a nurse may help, if you can't get in to see a doctor soon enough or don't want to make an appointment. Good luck!

Having a period every month is normal, when you get the depo shot or use any of the other birth control methods that cause you to NOT have them it only makes sense that when you stop using them you would have a heavy flow. Your body is just doing what it is suppose to do. Wearing a pad is much healthier for you since it is so long and so bad you might want to feel gross for a while to be healthier. I shudder when I hear ads about birth control and it says you will have fewer periods I just can't see that this in any way is healthy. You should keep an eye on it though and if it lasts too long or you get really tired or just don't feel well you should contact your Doctore just to be on the safe side. I hope it stops soon and your cycle gets back to normal.

I stopped getting the depo shot in Dec. I was on it for 2 years. I got the 10 year IUD without any hormones. I got my period a few days after I got the IUD which was the 13th of Dec. I had my period for almost a month. After the 2 week it was very lite most days then I would think ok its almost done then the next day it was heavy like it was starting again. It was a pain in the butt. Didn't have a period in Feb. but I jsut started this month yesterday. So far everything seems normal. Good Luck! My ob said it was a result of not having one for so long and my body was adjusting.
