Anyone Ever Do Consignment?

I would agree about craigslist being a really good way. I have triplets, so I have a ton of stuff to get rid of. Although I am having a hard time with some of it, things do sell. If you need the money right away, it is hit and miss. I have been trying to sell my carseats for over a month now, and things have either had inquiries with no follow through after my reply, or meeting places and times have not worked. However, cloths and bouncy seats went fast. Try craigslist a bit and see what you can get rid of before you take it to a shop. Hope this helps.

it depends on which store you go to. Some are very restrictive (better name brands, great quality), others take almost anything.

My favorites (pickier too) are Small Change (Scottsdale & Lincoln) and Buffalo Kids (Warner & McClintock). Buffalo Kids has a new owner and changing names, but it is still operating the same.

You can also offer all of your items as one or two bundles on Craig's List.

I have had good experience with consignment. On clothing over the last 2 years I have earned over $300 dollars and this was truly eleminating only things I would not or could no longer wear. Unfortunately the one issue with consignment is it may not be as timely as you need.

The other options are craigs list,ebay or a yard sale, but those will require more effort on your part.

Depends on what you're trying to get rid of. If it's kid's clothing/toys/furniture I'd take it to Other Mothers b/c you can get good trade value on things and have to buy so much less in the future which saves you money in the long run. If you ask for cash instead you only get a very small amount (half of what they give you in trade value).

Buffalo Exchange works the same way, really. You don't get much in cash value but the exchange rate is okay.

CDs and books don't tend to get ya much in cash either but if you only need a little, it will work.

Otherwise, maybe you should just try to sell things on Ebay cuz that's the best way to get the most money for your things.

I have done this at two different places and it was fine - I got some other clothes in exchange. They don't give you very much for the clothing you give them. I found that Target and Kohl's are usually the same price and their clothes last as long as the clothes that you get used at a consignment shop. Also if you donate your clothing to a local charity (Goodwill, etc.) then the write-off you can do on your taxes is financially better than giving to consignments.

ag roup of my friends and i have trade parties. we go to one of our homes, we take turns hosting. each spring and fall. it has really grown a lot and at the one we had last month we had over 50 people. eveyone brings at least 10 items to trade , clothes pictures of furniture, anything you want to trade. eveyone sets their stuff up some of them get really artistic, in the garage or back yard. we all try on clothes and stuff. everyone also brings a pot luck dish or beverage to share. right now it is jsut moms but some of the dads have asked to be included. we spend the afternoon trying on stuff and trading clothes, tools, kitchen ware etc and its also a party. that is way better than consignment stores because if you dont think a trade is worth what yoru stuff is, you just dont trade. at the end we take a load to goodwill of stuff that is left over and no one wants.

I have sold my kids clothing on Ebay, Craigslist, at Yard Sales and at Consignment stores. By far, the easiest way to sell all of it is by taking it to the consignment store.

You wash it, load it up and take it in. You get to shop while they look at your stuff. Easy. Right? Definitely. Do you get what you should money wise. NO WAY! Especially lately. If you opt for store credit there is hardly anything worth purchasing in the store. If you opt for the cash, look at what they actually bought from you. Most times they buy a ton of stuff and you take the money, not realizing that they pretty much just paid you garage sale prices. They used to give an itemized receipt for what they bought, but, of course, they no longer do that because they would be exposed.

I have been opting for Craigslist and I sell my stuff in a lot by size or season. You have to take pictures, answer tons of emails and arrange for pick up with the prospective buyer. A little bit more work, but you most likely can sell your stuff for $2-$3 a piece.

DON'T GO TO ONCE UPON A CHILD ON VALVISTA AND BASELINE!!! THE NEW OWNERS ARE BEARS! THEY PAY YOU NOTHING-THEN ALMOST EVERY CLOTHING ITEM IS OVER $5!!! I can go to a good sale at Target and Old Navy and pay less than that!!

Where did you take them to consignment? I have done consignment in the past, and it worked great for me! I am even in conversations to buy an existing store and running my own consignment business! For large items, if you have time, you'll get more money if you try to sell them on Craigslist or something similar. If you don't have time, consignment is great, because they will do all the work to sell your item for you. I know that The Peanut Gallery in Cottonwood will give you cash for large items and store credit for clothes.
The pricing is usually 40% of whatever they sell (or would sell) for. And what they sell for is generally about half of what you bought if for brand new. Sometimes more if it's in brand new condition, or a really good brand name.
I would be interested in some of the terrible stories you heard (so as not to make those kinds of mistakes in my own store), if you have time to write me.
