Wii Vs. X-box Kinect

My kiddo, 5, wants a wii. But the reason she wants one is because she sees the sega kinect game on commercials where you move around and the animal on the game moves like you do. She doesn't get that it's two different systems. Which system is better for a kid? I don't plan on playing without her, so I really have no idea. She's played wii by my friend's house, but she sometimes finds it hard to push the right buttons on the remote while playing the game. I was also looking at other games and the wii Nickelodeon kids fitness one looks good for her. Do they have something like that in Kinect?

What can I do next?

We have the XBOX Kinect and love it. We got rid of the WII because we nolonger used it. With the Kinect you are the controller.
We have a game where you are on a raft and when you jump the guy (that looks like you) jumps. It's really great for the kids and even as a family.

Definitely the xbox kinect (not a sega kinect--sega was a different game console all together). It's much more accurate with movement compared to the wii. The games for the kinect are much better too! Just make sure you have at least 6 feet of room in front of your tv.

For a 5y the Xbox 360 Kinect is probably better than Wii. The Wii does have some Sports games that are 'move' games, but there are a great many where my kid still just sits on the couch to play them. With the Kinect you ARE the controller so you HAVE to move in order to play.

Kinect-100% better than Wii. We don't touch our Wii anymore.

My vote is for Xbox 360 Kinect. No chance of a controller flying out of your hand and hitting the TV! You are the controller. Like the other mom said, you HAVE to move. My kids are 13, 10 and 8 and have a blast with Kinect Sports. We also have Dance Central (very fun!) and Zumba Dance, which I use.

My 5 year old loves playing our Wii! I think she loves the bowling best. She also enjoys the biking, running, and obstacle course on the Wii Fit. I have played the Kinect also, but I have heard there are more kid friendly games with the Wii.

I would say the kinect, it uses newer technology, and does not require a remote of any kind. it will encourage her to actually interact with the game later on down the road. there is kinect adventures, it has several games in it which require the person playing to run in place, lean side to side, or jump at certain times. there is also kinectimals, which allows children to interact with virtual pets. and play games with them. The Wii was good for its time, but as far as interactive game systems go, the xbox kinect is the best. and the one from playstation is of lower quality than the Wii.

We just bought a Wii a few weeks ago, and our oldest (5yo) loves it - we bought Wii Party and it came with some standard games like golf, bowling, etc. Wii Party has some good games like "balance boat" and others which use "mini-games" that require teamwork to win. Some of them incorporate the controllers in really interesting ways. We have not ever had a problem with the controller flying out of his hand. The Wii games in general seemed much more family-oriented. It took our son a few times playing but now he has no problem navigating around in the games. We also went to Gamestop and were able to purchase a number of games and add-ons used.
