Well, I'm finally down to the stage where I'm picking out a few games! :)
My daughter will be 7 on her birthday and her grandparents bought her a DS XL. It came with the Mario/Donkey Kong game.
Her favorite things are art and science, and she also enjoys fun sim games. What would you recommend, or what did your children enjoy at that age (or around that age?) She can read well, so that's not a barrier.
I'm glad you mentioned the Magic School Bus Oceans game...I have that one in my shopping cart, but I wasn't sure about it. I also have some Discovery channel Spider game, a classic book "e-reader" type of thing, Farm Frenzy, etc.
Zelda and Mario have been a part of my life for going on three decades... :) ...we have so many Mario and Zelda games, so obviously, those will be added...but not yet, because they're too expensive. :) I really want to get Mario 64 because it's my favorite Mario game...I keep having to remind myself that this is for HER and not for ME!!!
mario kart, super mario bros, cooking mama (although that one gets old and put down but it eventually gets picked back up again) those are the ones that I see get played with the most.
My kids and all their friends are all over Zelda right now. I think it is kind of cool that they look up the strategy guides online and work through them. Zelda is a role playing game or RPG. It is also a 3DS game so I am not sure if it can be played on a regular DS

M son is 7 and loves New Super Mario and Mario Cart. He has a ton of games, but those are his favorites. There are some new educational games that I'm considering checking out for him. I don't expect those to be favorites, but I can be hopeful :)
