Scars - Waterbury,CT

My daughter (20 months) took a fall and landed face first into a wooden window sill. She has a black eye, and a cut next to her eye. The scab has fallen off, but left a fresh pink scar.

I understand that with time the scar will fade, but I am wondering if I should use Mederma or another scar reducing product to hopefully make the scar as light at possible.

I am concerned, because my son fell at about that same age, and he had a cut on his face. We didnt treat it with anything, and you can still see it. (Thankfully its covered by his eyebrow, so its not so noticeable.)

I spoke to the pharmacist and she recommended just using Vitamin E.

Anybody have any thoughts about Mederma or Scar Zone or Vitamin E?? Is it worth the extra money? Does it really work??? THANKS!

What can I do next?

i dont know about any of the scar creams, i would ask the ped because i was going to use mine on my son, and my friend who works for the company that makes it (he got me samples after my surgery) said not to use it on the kids. but...if by any chance you are breastfeeding, or even if you have someone close to you who is, putting breastmilk on a scar does wonders, it is truly amazing. and keep it out of the sun, obviously. either way, it will probably heal a lot better than you think, especially if it is flat.

Hey crystal
Honestly I don't beleive that you should put an ointment on your child/your baby that isn't natural. Cocoa butter works wonders for lightening skin and scars. Works great for stretch marks. Vitamin E is just that; a vitamin with many uses. Imagine that damgae you could inflict on her delicate skin as opposed to the damage you are trying to take away.

Anything from the eyebrow up the forehead, will travel up towards the hairline so I wouldn't worry about creams and such. Under the brow and lower, vitamin E works great as does cocoa butter, the real stuff, not the perfumy stuff. You can certainly give Mederma for Kids a try but that works with time. Good luck

If you are really concerned I would definitely use the scar stuff that is now readily available at many stores. The only I know about them is that they are very time consuming and it takes many weeks to work.

My mom regrets not seeing a plastric surgeon to 'fix' a scar I have on my left cheek. It never bothered me. I actually kind of like it. But i do have others that I want gone & looked into the products that you mentioned. Perhaps the products already have vitamin E in them? Or maybe you could mix them. Either way I hope it works.

Vitamin E works. I had surgery on my wrist yrs ago and used vitamin e oil on them. Within a yr or so you couldn't see them at all. I just had a large mole removed from my upper arm in Jan and have been using Palmer's Coco butter with vitamin e and the redness is already diminished substantially.

Get rosa mosqueta oil. It is a bit pricey (should be under $20) for a small tube, but I have seen amazing results from car accident victims with horrible scarring. It is a flower seed extract and totally safe for little ones. You should be able to find it at any health food store. Also works great for acne scars.
