My two year old daughter fell on my treadmill last week while I was on it. She got her face pretty scraped up on the belt of the treadmill. Good news is she was not seriously hurt. But, as her face is healing up, Im noticing that the skin underneath is now very pink, discolored and im afraid it will be a permanent scar. Wondering if anyone knows of a good cream or other treatment to help the wound heal w/o any scar?? Its only been a week so im hoping it will continue to get bettter, but since its on her face, i really want it all to go away!

Thanks for all the great advice. Its been about 2 weeks or so and my daughters face is healing great. I think it looked worse than it actually was..but i did start using vitamin E and i think in the next few weeks the small red area thats left should heal up perfectly. But all the advice was much appreciated.

Yes. Try a product called, 'Traumeel'. I think you can only find it at health food stores. It has homeopathic pills as well as a cream. Amazing stuff.

Try aloe vera! And I mean from the real plant. Get one of the "leaves" and cut it open. Put the fleshy part of the plant on the cut. If you do this every day for as long as possible, it should help heal the wound nicely. This is from experience. When I was in college I fell down a flight of concrete stairs face first! I busted my chin open (it wasn't deep enough for stitches) and was worried about scarring. I put the aloe vera plant on my chin for a good week (if my memory serves correctly). It's now 10+ years later, and no scars.

Try aloe vera and vitamin e. I take the vitamin e capsules, break them open and use the pure oil from it. Also you should keep the area covered and moist. don't let the area scab. And there is a product, I can't think of the name - sorry, that is like a thick bandage type of tape you put over the area. I want to say it is a silicone scar reducing tape.

You can also go see a plastic surgeon. they should be able to tell you what you can do.

good luck!

Hey M.! We've tried Mederma for kids (which was pretty costly at over $20.00 for a little tube) when my son fell off some monkey bars at his preschool. If I remember correctly, the main ingredient was Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera has helped me with my injuries in the past, too. If you can't get a hold off the actual Aloe Vera leaf itself, go to the store and find an Aloe Vera gel with no alcohol and with the most concentrated Aloe Gel in it. I think you'd have good luck at Henry's or Whole Foods, or a place where they carry holistic and organic items. I have also tried Vitamin E oil from the actual Vitamin E capsule, which has worked pretty well but it's super sticky. Good luck and I sure she'll heal up nicely!

Hello M., my name is F.. You can use vitamin E directly on the skin where the scare is forming, if a scare has already formed then I have a lotion called Demarkable Dermal Smoothing Lotion. This lotion works wonders. My 15 year old daughter had surgery last year on her back her scare stretched and started to discolor. After using this lotion for a week we started to notice that the scare is shrinking, the discoloration is also getting better. This product works wonders on stretch marks also. If you wish to use this product please feel free to call me.

There is an OTC ointment called MEDERMA that worked great for me for a scar. I don't know if you can use it for children though, you'd have to check into that. You can get it at savon/rite aid...it is kind of expensive, like 30bucks I think for a tiny tube. But you don't need much and it REALLY does work.

Next, I really like bio oil. You can find it at Target or Ulta. Many people have seen results with this product. I've also used Mederma and Scar Zone but got the best results with Bio Oil.

There are many creams out there and not many of them work. The best thing to do is not to expose the scarred area to sun...i know this is difficult especially because the time of year. put sun block on it and it should fade. you can try the one on the tv i think it is called mcderma..you know the one with the child and they take off the mask and the scar is gone. i have heard mixed reviews about this one. dont go out of your way and pay alot of money because like i stated earlier not many of these creams work. Hi M.,

Young Living oils produces a Lavendar oil that
has been shown to heal (or at least minimize) scarring. You will want
to wait until the wound is completely closed.
It is more pricey than oils purchased over the counter, but the quality is worth it.

You can look it up at youngliving.org.

You will probably want to apply it 2-3 times a day
for about a week, give or take a fews days or so.

The best part is that it is just an essential oil..no
other ingredients or chemicals.

Blessings,
R.

There are creams on the market that you can get at the drug store. I remember years ago, I had a bad burn, and a friend gave me vitamin E in a bottle. It was liquid form (kind of like if you squeezed out what is in the capsules). It worked beautifully. The worst thing for a scar is sun, so make sure you put sunscreen or Zinc on it.

Hi M.,

You may want to try Aloe Vera (fresh). If you can get a hold of a plant, just cut off the tip of a stalk and gently rub some of the gel onto your daughter's face once or twice a day with your fingertips. Also, keep her out of the sun until it heals up because I think that that can intensify the scar as well. I've never heard of anyone being allergic to Aloe Vera, but you may want to ask your ped. just in case. I've also heard that Maderma is very good.

I am glad that your daughter was not hurt!

There is Merderma for kids, which looks purple at first but turns clear after you rub it in the skin. But my son's doctor said that the most important thing is to keep their wound from the sun, so make sure you put sunscreen on her face before heading out... Sun glasses too if it's near the eyes, as if merderma gets in the eye it may damage the cornea, she said.

Hi,
I've had a few major surgeries that left unavoidable scars - I'm also fair skinned and scar easily. Though I've had surgeries in two different states and one abroad -- in every case, they gave me Vitamin E oil to apply daily. Where I used it, my scars are minimal. I used that knowledge while pregnant and applied Vitamin E and shea butter to my abdomen--I have no stretch marks on my belly at all, after three giant babies. But I sure have them on my hips where I didn't think to apply anything! You can get Vitamin E oil at any drug store. Test it on her wrist first and wait 24 hours, just to make sure she's not sensitive to it.

Best of luck! :)

Hi M.,

Sensaria Natural Bodycare has what I call Magic in a Bottle. Sea Silk Mask is a clear mask that you apply at least once a week and what it does is bring new cells to the surface faster as it is also exfoliating the dead cells. This results in a smoother, clearer complexion. I am a representative for the company and I share how I had acne for over 30 years and my pores were big enough to eat cereal out of. Not anymore! Sun damage, pores, scarring are all gone. It is only $24 a bottle too and will last a long time. Lots of people have used it for their scars as well. What is cool here is that you'll be able to use it as well as it is a facial mask.

With other things like aloe vera and neosporin, they will heal the injury but probably not do much for scarring. Another important thing is sunscreen!

I've also used it on my leg where I've had some surgeries. The scars were big, red, raised areas. Now they are flat, white, smooth areas and I only used it the first several months (it has been almost seven years). I should start using it again on the areas to see what happens!

You might try aloe vera. I have had excellent results using it on scratches, burns, sunburns, diaper rash, and numerous other assaults to the skin. If you have a plant on hand, that is the best. However, you can also purchase aloe vera-based gels that are quite effective.
I have never known anyone to have a reaction to the aloe-vera, but there's always the chance of an allergic response. Usually that would show up within hours, or even minutes, of application. Just watch.
It is excellent for diaper rash, as well. If a diaper rash doesn't appear to be clearing after a day or two, it's possible the baby may also have a thrush (candida) infection, and should be treated for that.
Back to your daughter's lovely little face! Try the aloe vera for a week, several times a day or more, and hopefully, her face will be clear as a bell with no blemish whatsoever!

Hi M.,

Fortunately since your daughter is only two, the chances of the skin showing a scar are much less than if she were ten, for example. I do recommend you get this question answered by a professional dermatologist rather than people on here who are just guessing, since a scar stays for LIFE. I still have a cat scratch scar of 3 small claw marks on my face from sneaking up on a cat when I was 7 years old. I am now 42. My mother did not take me to see anyone so it became permanent.

A dermatologist can answer the question most likely over the phone if you have one you use yourself, otherwise they will want to see your daughter in person..the sooner the better to make sure you don't waste time since the skin is reforming itself now. Forget about aesteticians in spas. They are not dermatologists. Good luck.

Dear M.:

My son has two bad scars on his face we're currently treating with Mederma. We're seeing remarkable improvement.

The most important thing I wanted to tell you, though, was that whenever we go outside, we cover them with a latex-free bandage to prevent any sun from getting to them. He also uses a ball cap. The scars are way too fresh to put sunscreen on (acording to the dermatologist, there is an ingredient in sunscreen that will worsen scars) and, for now, we're using this physical barrier to protect the new skin. Once it's healed well with the Mederma (or whatever you use), we'll use sunscreen on that part of his face again.

Best wishes,

M.

This is an old wives tale, but it worked many times over for me on my Daughters. Straight VASELINE! My Oldest scratched up her nose pretty badly when she was a Toddler & she had huge scrapes & scratches on & all around her nose. VASELINE on it daily, with good coverage, cleaned it up. No scars! Same happened with my Youngest. She tripped and scraped her nose pretty badly. No scar! I've used it everytime there's a chance of a scar. So far, so good!
