Have You Used Mederma for Kids on Your Child?

My 2 year old daughter took a pretty good abrasion near her eye/facial area about 3 weeks ago, after falling onto some rocks by our driveway. The scab healed up well after after a week of applying Bacitracin. I'm concerned about a scar, since there is still some red marks there. I began used the Mederma for Kids 2-3x day (trying not to forget to put it on) once the scab was gone. It seems slightly better, but the marks are definitely still there. Has anyone felt this product to be helpful, or is there something else you'd recommend? Or... will this just be there on her face and maybe fade in time (oh, the scrapes on the face are so sad... sniff!) Thank you!

What can I do next?

Have you tried vitamin E? Have heard that works and they do have some new stuff on the market that is suppose to help make scars fade.

Good luck

My little niece is also 2 years old and cut her cheek (dropped a glass of water and slipped & fell into the glass) and my sister used Mederma for awhile. I don't know if it was the Mederma that helped or just natural healing but the scar has faded a lot!

I have used it quite a bit for my daughter. She's a little accident prone and the scrapes and cuts always seem to end up on her poor little face. I also like to use vitamin E oil to help heal and Bio Oil (you can get it at Walgreens...it's for scars and stretch marks) to help with the scarring. She fell and cut her face (near her eye, also) in February and we are still working on the scar with Mederma and Bio Oil. It has improved greatly but we still have a ways to go. I know on the tube of Mederma, it says it can take 3-6 months to reduce the scar....or something like that. I would just suggest using something on it religiously and slathering the scar with sunscreen anytime she is outside.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I myself have tried Mederma, but have not had success. I just found a company that sells all natural products. Melaleuca tea tree oil is supposed to help fade scars. The also offer the option of earning money from home. Email me if you are interested in more information. ____@____.com

I haven't used the kids version, but my husband used Mederma on a scar and it seemed to help with that. I wouldn't worry about it too much -- kids have a great capacity to heal and, although it may take longer than 3 weeks, I'm guessing this scar will fade over time.

For lessening scars my doctor also advised less sun exposure to the area for at least a year and sunscreen.

I haven't used Mederma, but I have used Aquaphor, which is more "natural" and probably cheaper...it was recommended to me by a dermatologist to help with healing up both an abrasion on my face, and I used it on a burn on my son's leg with great results.

Aside from the Mederma, make sure you always always always put sunscreen on it, every day, reapply as needed. Scars are fresh skin, and too much sun exposure will leave them white and very prominent!

Now, my youngest fell at Sears and cut his head right above his eyebrow open on a lawn tractor. He had 35 stitches in his head (3 layers!) and it healed wonderfully, but it of course had a scar. We used Mederma religiously for 6mos and you can hardly see the scar. If you look and know its htere, you can see it, but otherwise it healed beautifully, better htan we could have ever imagined. BUT I think alot of that had to do with the fact that we used the sunscreen daily and that helped keep that new skin healthy.

yea i tried it-it didnt work for me either-my daughter fell off her bike at 7 yrs old...got 5 stitches on her forehead..luckily she was young enough that new skin covered the scar.however i just recently read a bunch on healing oils...try this site-(essential.com )they have oils for everything.otherwise i also heard that pure virgin olive oil works great also...hope that helps

My mom just recently retired from a dermatologists office and my pediatrician also reassured me with her info. 6 months post injury is what is going to be left of the scar. Mederma helps, but moreover the "massaging" motion helps break down the scar tissue. I still use mederma so that the scar on my 2 year old boys nose will hopefully go away. The other thing to consider is that your daughters head will grow, but the scar should stay the same and/or get smaller (in size proportion to her head, etc). good luck!

I use on my son. Not sure if it is worth it. Have to use it many times a day for a few months. My son around x-mas tripped and cut his skin between lip and nose got stiches took to er U asked about mederma they said since he was youny his skin has enough elastisity it should heal well. I still got the mederma trying to help. He would fight me about it lick at it so I would be concerned with putting near eye with warm weather on it's way. Sorry not the greatest help
