If I didn't know what to wear I think I'd go out to eat and get dessert or something, just so I'd not spend a lot. Then notice what they're wearing.

I would imagine they wear black slacks or a black skirt that is nice, not casual and a white shirt.

They should have told you-black is always a plus-it looks professional. Wear long sleeves-that always makes you appear clean. Flat shoes make sense-groomed nails and hair fixed neatly. I hope you receive good training-no texting on the floor, no personal conversations where a guest could hear, women do not like being called "guys", a simple welcome or good evening is preferred, no chewing gum, all guests should be greeted when they come in the door, the use of madam/sir is the epitome of respect, no one wants to be called Hon or Dear-especially elderly women-and they are generally not hard of hearing. Phone manners should be impeccable-smile before you answer the phone-your guest will will hear it in your voice-always be genuine and gracious. Learn the names of your guests-their favorite table, what they drink, etc-go the extra mile-it will pay off. Your goal is to get them to come back again and again-and choose Ruby Tuesday even when they are on travel. Good luck-the restaurant industry is a great place to work!

Congratulations on the new job!!

I would call and ask what the dress code is. I know servers have a khaki pant and black shirt - I think that's it.

Every time I've been to our Ruby Tuesday's - the hostess is wearing black.

To be safe - review any and all the paperwork that they gave you upon hiring you - it might be there - if it's not? call and ask the hiring manager what the dress code is. They will like that you took the initiative.

Congrats!

Most restaurants have attire guidelines you have to follow. Did they give you any paperwork outlining your job? Will you be going back in for any paperwork before you start? Look at what the current hostesses are wearing and emulate that.

Congrats on your job! Why aren't you just asking them what to wear??? And please stop spelling "Tuesday" wrong (I mean, if you're going to work there and all....) :)

That is really a question for the person that hired you, but every time I've been to Ruby Tuesdays, the hosts or hostesses are wearing black slacks. Congratulations on your new job!

I worked at Ruby Tuesday when I was in college. Then dress code then was black shirt, black pants, black socks, and flat black non-slip soled shoes. If your pants have belt loops, you were required to wear a black belt. Hair needs to be tied back somehow. They have training videos that you will watch and required reading of the menu and testing on it (well you might not have to do that since you will be a hostess.) You'll probably shadow someone too. It never hurts to call a manager and ask though.

They may have specific guidelines. If they didn't go over this when they hired you then call them and ask.

If you were hired by a CHAIN restaurant such as Ruby Tuesday's, they will give you all the verbal and written material that you will need for your job.....they may even provide uniforms.

Best wishes on your new job.

Best to call them. They should have or should soon provide you with some sort of employee handbook with dress code, but why not be proactive. If they didn't mention it during the hiring process, just ask.

Follow all of the paperwork they give you. Ask the manager any and all questions you have. Pay attention to the training. Be sure you show up showered and well groomed. Be professional but friendly. DO NOT keep your cell phone on.

I know the showering part sounds like a no brainer, but you would be shocked at what people don't know. As an employment specialist, I've had to tell several of my consumers that frequent bathing is not only "a good thing" but expected when you work with the public and, well, other people. :-)
