Our First Play Class

I took my son for our first play class at one of those gymboree-type places. It was a free introduction class. He seemed to have a good time, however I can't rationalize that it's ok to spend $25 for 50 minutes!
Does anyone know of any play classes in the lower Westchester area (Mamaroneck) that doesn't cost a fortune? With the cold weather coming, I'm dreading what I am going to do with my son's increasing energy levels!

What can I do next?

Hi!

One thing about paying the $25 is that it includes unlimited free play times - and they are usually held at least 5 times per week. Especially with the cold weather coming up, you will have a place to bring your lively little one!

Just a thought...... If you would like to discuss further or have any questions, I can find out more for you as I know someone who owns one of these types of establishments.

Wishing you well!
Celia

I agree with you about the cost of some classes. I have a 4 month-old daughter but I still want to have things to do during the colder months and I want us both to get out and socialize. I just signed up for a free trial of Over the Moon Music classes, which a Mamasource member had suggested to me, Go to http://www.overthemoonmusicandmore.com/index.htm to see a video of a class and find a location that works best for you (they have a lot in Westchester). They are having their free sessions next week and you have to call to sign up for one.

Hi J.,

I have a 9 month old son and agree with you on the high costs of some of these classes. However, I discovered that my local YMCA (in Rye) offers several 'mommy and me' type classes for much less. I paid $125 for a 10 week session - one 45 min class per week (about $12 per class!) Much better than $25 at Gymboree! And the good thing is that you don't have to be a member of the Y to particpate in these classes. This session is from Sept-Nov., but they also have a winter session as well.Check out their website http://www.ryeymca.org/index.htm
I am sure that the YMCA in White Plains offers similar programs too.

Another option that is FREE is storytime at your local library. In Rye they have it several mornings a week.

Good Luck!
J.

Hi J.-
I just went to a group today at Parents Place in White Plains, which I thought was pretty good. I went to the mothers and infants group(birth to 9 mos), but I know they have a birth to 5 yrs group also. The one I went to was 1.5 hrs and they are a non-profit so it is a voluntary donation system (approx $10-15 suggested, but whatever you can afford)--much more friendly on the budget! The location sounds like it would work for you too. Here's the website.
