Hello,
A very good friend of mine is 38 years old and pregnant with her first. The reaction from her doctor was not gentle nor supportive. Does anyone have a referral for a professional OB who may specialize in pregnancies over 35?

I had my first child at age 41. My general practioner did refere me to an Ob in Denver. I believe he's retired but if you have any questions or would like someone to talk to I'd be happy to share with you. I had lots of concerns and I know what you must be going through.

I second the recommendation of Dr. Lynn Barta. She is my OB and saw me through my pregnancy (I have a 6 month old). She is a great listener and is very caring. She is a part of the Midtown OB-GYN clinic, there are at least 5 doctors, all female except for Dr. Zarlengo (who is the one who was on call when I had my son, he was great too!). I highly recommend this practice.

Hi,

My first preganancy was when I was 38. I lost six preganancies and switched MD's almost every time. Last year, when I was 41 I gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Valentine's Day. He just turned one and I am now 42. I LOVE my doctor. I work as a labor and delivery nurse and used a Doc I work with. She followed my preganacy very, very closely. Her name is Gail Womack and she delivers at St. Anthony Central and Luthern. I had a high level ultrasound with Hobbins and did not get an amnio. My pregnancy was still very difficult with lots of complication, but well worth it. I love being mom. I would be happy to talk with your friend, just reply through Mamasource.

Thank you.

S.

I have a close friend who had all three of her babies after 35 (her last she was 40 1/2). She went to Dr. Austin at Avista in Louisville and loved him. They will all suggest Amnios and maybe extra blood tests but nobody can force that. I also went to Dr. Austin (male) in addition to a specialist because my first success (third pregnancy) was very high risk - the specialist I absolutely loved and her name is Dr. Lisa Farkouh and she is in Denver. She figured out why I had lost my first two at 20 weeks and was actually angry that after my blood test results it was suggested I have an amnio which caused me to lose all my fluid. Long story but my son survived, was just born a month early. Good luck!

I was 34 when I had my daughter and I really liked my OB/GYN. Her name is Jennifer Grube of Cohen and Womack in Lakewood Co. She is very supportive and easy to talk to.
Sorry I do not have her number off hand.

Hi, I am a 43 year old mom of a 2yr. old. I delivered Seth when I was 41. My OBGYN was wonderful, and Rose Medical Center where I delivered was wonderful.

The office is called Mile High OBGYN at two locations. I went to the one on Hudson and my main doctor is Carol Heller.

Tell your friend that she is NOT alone. I have met many older mothers in Denver. My best friend who lives in Kansas City was artificially inseminated at age 40 and delivered a healthy baby boy 2.5 years ago.

Recommend Dr. Lynn Barta who also had children at a "later age". I was 36 when I had my 2nd....she was great. Her practice is in Denver with Dr. Zarlengo, head of OBGYN at Rose.
