I don't know much about watches, but I would like to get my husband a nice one... he's graduating with his Masters in Computer Science this December, a father of 4 kids (He adopted our oldest and Number 4 is 2 weeks old) and works full time in addition to pulling his weight in housework... and basically I am hormonal and stupidly in love with the man. *mushy mushy mushy* ;) Just wanting something special. I own an Omega mini constellation, and two Raymond Weil Parsifal's. I got him a Parsifal several years ago, bought used and he wore it nearly every day until the clasp started to give out.
I like nice things, but I am frugal, so I will be looking on eBay to buy gently used. I want something with a sapphire crystal to avoid scratches, and I definitely want something dressy for work, not sporty. He's not the type of guy that would want a watch with a HUGE side profile. He really liked the Raymond Weil. Moderate price as far as some watches go 1-3k.
Any suggestions of brands similar to quality level? Also, I know with some makers (like Raymond Weil) they make several levels of watches... some are cheaper, some are nicer. If thats the case please tell me which name to look for as the better watches. :) I usually research my purchases by reading reviews, but I am not really sure where to start when it comes to watches. Hoping some ladies here are watch enthusiasts or have husbands that are and can give me some guidance.

My dad is very into watches (he has literally dozens), and his favorites are Invicta. Thay are very nice, dressy, and of good quality.
My hubby is obsessed with Movado watches, and their lower end model, ESQ.
Rather than going eBay- try Jomashop.com its legitimate new watches. I got a Michelle watch on there for $900 and it is a $1600 watch. Also, a friend of mine told me she priced the watch on Jomashop and took a print out to Nordstrom and they honored the price, although it was almost $1K less!!! But the one I bought on Jomashop is great. Brand new, came with the Michelle box and warranty and all. They have every brand you could think of.
Another thing I did to was get a watch at macy's. It was a $1500 burberry for my husband. I was able to use one of the 20% off coupons and opened a card there. I only paid like $800 for it. So try that maybe too.
If you are close to Nasr Brothers Jewlers, they have some of their Baume and Mercier on sale 50%off.
I was at Costco last night and they carry Concord watches as well as Raymond Weil.

i got my husband one for his 40th birthday last year and he loves it!! It's the Omega Seamaster - it was about $1400. I have a contact at Bock that will take GREAT care of you -- and give you incredible service at their private store. A man's watch is their jewelry - they don't get rings, earrings and necklaces, bracelets like we do! Hopefully I will be getting him another watch in another year or two! It's just something that some men love!!! Congrats to your hubby on his accomplishments and don't apologize for being so mushy and hrmal -- love is great and it is beautiful to see! i feel the same way about my husband!!!

I do not really know watches, but I do know on Overstock.com they have several really nice men's watches. They have brands such as Tag Heuer, Mavado and Baume & Mercier. I hope this helps!
My husband and I have his and her's Michael Kors watches.. There really nice, not super expensive and have big faces on them.
Bulova or Movado are nice brands. I'd keep an eye out on Amazon especially with the Thanksgiving sales. I bought my husband a Bulova on Amazon last year for several hundred dollars off. Dallas Watch and Jewelry has some gently used Rolex's as well as other brands. Very nice store located SW corner of Tollway/Midway. They repaired my Rolex at a very reasonable cost.
Dallas Gold and Silver is another good spot. We buy/sell numismatics there.
