This is the best Chili I have ever made. Pretty spicy though! I only put in one Jalapeno.

The cornbread is delicious too. I make this all the time even though it's still hot.

You can use 1# lean beef or turkey (ground) that you'll brown & drain first, or you can just throw in Boca crumbles or other soy protein that resembles hamburger in appearance. then it's vegetarian, which I prefer. Throw in 2 cans ofdrained, rinsed kidney beans (I usually mix colors) plus a can of black or white beans, 2 cans of chopped tomatoes, and a package or two of chili seasoning (the little foil packets-I use Aldi's brand) plus a couple of T of molasses. Also chop up an onion and (opt) a green pepper. If it's too thick as it cooks, add a small can tomato sauce or some catsup. I cook this all in my crockpot for several hours. If it's too thin, remove the lid for the last couple of hours. Serve with sides of chopped green onions, sour cream or plain Greek yogurt, shredded cheese, and some crackers or croutons. Oyster crackers are most traditional. Good luck! This freezes well for a second or third meal later.

My husband is a trained chef and he loves my chile. I do the "toss it in" method. In a 5 qt. pot, Cook up some hamburger, a couple of pounds or so. I usually throw in some groud turkey too. Drain it well and put back into pot. I use the stewed tomatoes that have the chile peppers already in them, 3 or 4 of the 10 oz (?) cans. Add in about 1 can of water. Season with straight chile powder...put some in, start with about a teaspoon, let it simmer a bit, taste it add some more, simmer, add some more....simmer until it tastes right. We have, on the side, chopped onions, cheddar cheese crackers or tostitos. Really good, not expensive, not complicated or hard to remember. Hope you try it and like it! I don't care for beans so I don't put them in...but throw some in if you like beans.

all i do is buy the williams seasoning and get all the stuff in the recipe on the back - i think it's a lb of hamburger (or two, your choice), 2 or 3 cans of beans, a can of tomato paste, a cup of water, and the seasoning. (that's why i always look at the recipe, i can never remember) you can do more or less of everything or tweak it however you want, it's basically impossible to mess up - and it's AWESOME and everyone seems to love it. i am no fan of "fancy" chili's with all kinds of wierd stuff in them.

Hunts canned chili - the big can (either hot or mild, whichever you want)
Ground beef - about a pound - pre browned & drained
Chopped onion - 1 small
Canned diced tomatoes - equal amounts to the chili
About a tablespoon of Chili Powder
1 tablespoon of taco sauce

Mix it all together & let it simmer for an hour or more.

That's it. I make it all the time. It's easy, quick, and everyone seems to love it. :)

Hi Momof2---I usually don't use a recipe. I start with browning ground beef. When the pink is mostly gone, I add chopped onion and garlic. Green peppers could be added here as well. When the onions are translucent, I start dumping cans: crushed tomatoes, usually 28 oz can, another can of diced tomatoes, maybe a can of tomatoe sauce and probably at least 2 cans of undrained beans, your choice. I've used the chili beans, kidney beans and black beans. Pinto beans also work well. I think they are the main component of the chili beans. Oh, a little salt and pepper AND lots and lots of chili powder ( I LOVE chili powder), to taste.

Mostly, how much tomatoes and beans I add are a function of what type of tomatoes and beans I have in my pantry.

I also use a pair of recipes I found through a website called the Cancer Project. They are vegan recipes. One is for a bean chili and the other is for Tex-Mex bulgar pilaf that you put the chili over. Absolutely yummy. I would recommend this to the most ardent meat lover and challenge them to tell me they didn't like it. Let me know and I can send you the links, or the word documents if you send me your personal email. Super easy recipe.

Good luck, have fun. I LOVE CHILI! Glad it's getting chilly (no pun intended) outside so we can start making it again. Be well. D.

This is Texas style chili We traditionally only use meat, but you can add canned Pinto beans (drained) for the last 15 minutes of cooking..

1 Med white onion chopped.
1 clove garlic crushed
1 1/2 lb chili meat
1 1/2 lb ground beef (venison can also be used)
3 tsp ground cumin
3 Tbsp chili Powder(you can add more to taste)
2 Tbsp. tomato paste
2 Cans Whole tomatoes (crushed)
tsp salt (optional if you want to add a beef bouillon instead)
1/2 tsp Cayenne pepper (optional) This is what adds the heat.. Is you want it mild, leave it out.. If you want it super spicy add more..

Cook onion, garlic and all meat and spices, till meat is browned.. Drain off all of the fat.. (DO NOT rinse meat).

Add tomato paste and all crushed tomatoes with all liquid, add salt (or bouillon).
simmer on low for an hour. If you feel it is too dry, you can add water or beef broth. Check the seasoning, you can add more heat or salt as needed.

Optional additions.. If you want to add fresh peppers (jalapenos, or poblanos), always rinse them, take the stems off and remove the inside membranes and seeds.. The chopped up peppers and cook with onion, garlic and beef..

Can be served with shredded cheese and raw chopped onions..
We eat it with corn tortillas, tortilla chips, or corn bread..

Freezes great.

This is the best simple easy chilli I know.

1 onion (diced and sauted in olive oil)
1 lb burger (I use morningstar farms vegetarian burger)
2 cans kidney beans
2 cans pinto beans
1 cans black beans
1 can creamed corn
1 can corn
1 can hominy
1 can petite diced tomatoes
1 can tomatoes and chillies
1 pkg. ranch dressing mix
1 pkg. taco seasoning

Sauté onion and burger. Add seasoning packets. Dump in all cans, (drain most of the liquid from the beans and regular cut corn, all others need juice) and allow to boil. Turn down and simmer for a few minuets. Serve topped with cheese, sour cream and chopped green onion. Best if you skip the spoons and use tortilla chips to eat it with. SO good!

I put 1 can of each: black beans (rinsed), pinto beans(rinsed), kidney beans (rinsed), tomato paste, and diced tomatoes w/green chilis. Add a cup or two of beef stock, 1 pound of meat (turkey, beef, kielbasa, etc), and season to taste w/ chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, and any other seasoning that smells good. I usually put all in the crockpot and start with light seasonings and add more to taste each hour. I sometimes add corn too.

1 and half lbs chop meat fry add 3 jars med. or hot salsa , 1/2 bottle or can of beer (reg. beer like bud or coors or miller... nothing dark) 1 tablesp. brown sugar, some chili seasoning or spice.. (to taste) i put in like 1 tablespoon chili pepper spice or you can buy chili seasoning.. it's good.. it comes with like 5 packagees in the box or all different spices.. it's called 2 alarm or 4 alarm seasoning.. i love this stuff... i use all the seasoning in the box but only half of the chili powder.. but all the rest. cook for about 1 hour... keep on tasting.. i usually use 2 med hot jars of salsa and one hot.. this saves you from having the cut peppers and onions..all the stuff in one jar.. i use old el paso or other good brands... you can serve this with corn bread on the side, or over pasta or elbow noodles... it's really good. if you want it a llittle thicker i add 1 can of beer and one can of refried beans.. it just thickens it up.. also i add 1 or 2 cans of red kidney beans.. with the juice in the can added too.. good luck.... try it today.. you will love it..

brown a lb of ground beef, drain and add a med chopped onion. cook that until the onion is tender, add a large jar (the big plastic ones) of prego traditional spag sauce (any sauce will do, i have a large family, and prego makes the biggest jars) 4-5 tbsp of chili powder and a can of kidney beans or chili beans (drain the can if using kidney beans), simmer for 20 min or so. i serve it over rice, with shredded cheese, sour cream and more chopped onions as toppings for each person to add to taste. hope this helps. such a basic recipe makes such a good chili.

Hello!

My mom used to own a family style restaurant and we used this chili recipe there. Everyone always loved it. It's mild but anyone can always add a hot sauce to it to increase the spice.

2 lbs. of Hamburger (or ground chuck, whatever you like best)
2 cloves garlic, chopped
4 onions (size depending on how well you like onion), cut fine

- Brown burger with garlic and onions in a large pot and drain
- Then add the following to the large pot of burger, garlic and onions

3 cans Chili Beans
2 large cans Kidney Beans (EXCEPT put these in for the last 10 minutes)
1 1/2 tablespoon Sugar
2 teaspoon Chili Powder
2 Bay Leaves
2 large cans Tomato Sauce
3 packages Chili Seasoning (McCormick)
2 quarts Tomatoes, blendered
4 Stalks of Celery
2 tablespoons Salt
1/8 teaspoon Red Pepper
1 teaspoon Paprika

Simmer for about 3 hours, stirring occassionaly
Again, DON'T add the Kidney Beans until the last 10 minutes of cooking

I just made chili the other night! yum
This is a recipe from my mother that she got from Weight Watchers YEARS ago....I messed with it just a bit, but it's good and simple.
1/2 white onion - diced
1 small green pepper-diced
2 cloves garlic - diced
12 oz cooked ground veal (but I use a bit more, and sometimes just use ground beef, just as good!)
2 tbsp Chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
One can pinto beans, One can kidney beans (do NOT drain the cans)
3 cups Tomato juice

Onion, green pepper and garlic in bottom of pot until soft - about 5 minutes. I usually put in a dash of olive oil.
Stir in all remaining ingredients (dump the cans of beans WITH the bean juice)
Let cook and simmer for about an hour

I usually make some corn muffins....super easy, super yummy!

I'm 43 and until this year have NEVER made chili myself, I always loved Dennison's so I never made it....until my new hubby said he would like some "homemade" chili. I was like, really??? So I asked a few people how they made theirs and they basically said they just "threw" in a bunch of stuff. So that's what I did and I think you should too! Just experiement. Try different cans of beans, throw in corn, hominy, olives, etc. Here's my basic recipe. As you are tasting it you can trhow in something that may be missing ore more of something else.

Brown 2 lb of hamburger with onion and garlic

add, 2 cans of each: pinto, kidney and black beans - RINSE them first!!!

2 cans tomato soup

1 can petite diced tomatoes

1 large can tomatoe sauce

1 small can tomatoe paste

1-2 dry packets of chili mix

some italian seasoning and salt/pepper to taste

I have also added garbonzo beans and corn.

Good luck and have fun!!!

I also don't use a recipe. I usually throw in whatever I have...
I 2 lbs. brown hamburger meat with diced onion, then drain the grease. Then I add a can of dark red kidney beans (we don't like alot of beans, so you could do more if you want), 2 or 3 cans of tomato sauce, then this is where I improvise :) I add small amounts (small, like maybe a tablespoonfull or a little more) of whatever I have that's tomato-ish...some ketchup, cocktail sauce, taco sauce, touch of BBQ sauce....then I pour in some chilli powder...I add a little bit at a time so it doesn't get too spicey...let it simmer until the kidney beans are soft.
then enjoy :)
good luck!
