Aspergers - Need Evaluation in KC North Area

We are suspecting our son may have AS or something similar. We have suspected many different things over the last 5 yrs. But the last couple of months, as I learned more about AS, the pieces of the puzzles seem to have come together. We had thought he was ADD or even had CAPD (he's always had problems following through with directions - we knew he wasn't doing it on purpose but he just couldn't)...And there are other 'quirks' he has that just fit.

Our problem is, the schools have let us down as far as helping us. His academics and classroom behavior have been good aside from his inattentive issues so they aren't terribly concerned, yet. He is entering 3rd grade this year and will be dealing with actual letter grades and writing will be so much more important. He has trouble with story telling and handwriting so I worry that the things that have been fairly minimal in the past will really be highlighted this year.

Anyway, we moved back to KC this winter and have had quite the time finding a good pediatrician. We're seeing a group now but they are always so busy and I haven't found -one- doctor that we totally trust. We have yet to see the same doctor twice with (and due to illness, we've been there 5 times in the last month).

Sooo, I need help with where to turn for an evaluation in the KC area, preferrably up north. I want to be able to call and set an appt up if possible...or if someone can give me the name of a good developmental Ped. I just dont know how the process works or the proper channels to go through. I need a starting point.

Also, Id even love ideas on -great- pediatricians in the northland area. The place we've been going was recommended on here and its not a bad place. I just haven't found our place there or one particular doctor that we like.

TIA

L.,

We live up north and our son has Down syndrome. He is 14½ years old and our doctor has had him since he was 6 months old. ANY time we need a referral, etc. he does everything he can to accomodate any needs he cannot meet. He is James McDonald at Clay Platte Family Medicine. He has a lot of compassion. He is a ped & internal med so he can treat the whole family. As far as the school system, we have had our battles. Get a support system w/your's son's diagnosis. Get knowledge not only about the diagnosis but your son's legal rights. I am up north and you are welcome to email me if I can be of any assistance. God Bless. S. R. (____@____.com)

We have hsd very good luck with Pediatric Care North off of 152 and Platte Purcahse. There are a total of seven doctors in the practice. I have two sons who see the same doctor everytime we visit orwe have the option to seeone of the other ones. These docs have privleges at both Saint Lukes Northland as well as Children's Mercy. The phone number is ###-###-####. I hope this helps.

I don't know how far this is for you.We go to Cockerell and McIntosh pediatrics.Dr.Kirby-Diaz is the best! However if your child is sick they can't usually get you in with your doc but they will try to get you in that day. Also they have evening hours for urgent care and they also have it on the weekend.Dr.Beck is another one we see alot but they all seem to be good doctor's.

I go to Children's Mercy for all of our specialist visits.

We take our kids to Pediatric Care North and love it. It is a group of mom dr's and they are all wonderful. When you schedule appts, they usually ask you who you normally see and try to get you scheduled w/ the same dr if at all possible. Also, if you think you need to see a specialist, I highly recommend calling the Children's Mercy Northland Clinic (we have been there on multiple occassions too - they can suggest a specialist w/in their group....a great collections of dr's too. Best of luck!
