Hi there,
Barefoot Books has a great collection of short stories for kids ages 3-4 yrs. old. One great book is Storytime. It has several stories for kids, and also a read-along CD which is perfect for early readers and for road trips!
We are having our big Winter Sale right now- check out our award-winning books at www.ReadandGrow.com.

My 3 year old son is part of the Tessy and Tab reading club. He gets a new one twice a month in the mail. They are short little stories - maybe about 10 pages max, but they also feature a letter and a number in each issue. He loves to get them and loves reading them. They are on topics such as a dentist visit, go to school, learn to write, etc. They are geared for 2 - 6 year olds. I think it is well worth the subscription price!

For learning to read I would suggest going to a teachers store and purchasing a "workbook" where there are mini-individual books you color and make. They focus on word families (The cat sat. The cat sat on a mat.) I know Scholastic makes several different ones.

The BOB Series is good. Barnes and Noble and I think Borders carries them, or you can order them through Amazon (cheapest method). The focus on short vowel sounds in a logical order. Montessori uses them. here's the link on Amazon.

There are 5 series of books. Be sure to read the back of each book for suggestions to parents.
