New Bed Time Story for 2 1/2 Year Old

Part of my son's bed time routine is reading him a bedtime story. He loves this part of his routine; however I'm always looking for new bedtime books since he has a tendency of getting bored. So far the books we've had since we started this routine are: Goodnight Moon, The Going to Bed Book, How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight, and Good Night Engines. The last book is the one we're reading right now and it's a library book so I'll have to find a replacement sometime soon. What have been your young child's favorite good night books or even your own faves? Any reccomendations are appreciated, Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the recommendations! So many great books for us to read! We'll probably be making a trip to the library today so that we can try a few of these out. I'm excited to see how he'll react to another new book since he loves to read books so much. Thanks again!

we love the Personal Penguin book, by Sandra Boynton. It's not really a bedtime book, but I love penguins and one of my friends got it for me when I was prego and you can watch Davey Jones from the Monkees sing it online, which is fun.

We really like "It's Time For Bed" by Mem Fox.
Margaret Wise Brown (the author of "Goodnight Moon") has "The Sleepy Book", which we really enjoy. I would recommend this for kids 3 years or older, so you could keep it in mind.

I have a huge list of favorite bedtime books (which take about 5 minutes or less to read), but it looks like you are looking for stories that conclude with going to bed. Feel free to message me if you want more titles that are just dear books for this age.

My husband just picked this one up at the library, and our 2.5 year old loves it! She delivers the punch line at the end every time: Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale.

We love Barefoot Books at our house. The Prince's Bedtime is a favorite, as is Animal Boogie (it can be read or sung). They have amazing books that you can't find easily. I discovered them when my son was 9 months old, and loved them so much I now sell them part time! They are available online through my website- www.ReadandGrow.com. Shipping is free with a $60 order until 12/24.

Enjoy!

We read library books all the time at bedtime! Some about bedtime, some not. (I do try to make the last one about bedtime though.) My son gets to pick most of the books from the library, and I will add a few I think look good. By regularly checking out different books from the library, I believe it creates a sense of anticipation of what we will read, breaks up the monotony (for my son AND for me!), and fosters a lifetime love of books. Happy Reading!!

He might like "Llama llama red pajama" or "Llama llama mad at mama." They rhyme, and have very cute artwork about a baby llama and his mama. My girls ALL-TIME favorite bedtime story (to this day, and they are now 5 and 8) is "Who's afraid of the Big Bad Book?" It's a sort of madcap story about why it's important to take care of your books. I think they like it because I can't resist getting creative with the narration. =)

I second personal penguin! Also "Guess How Much I love You" is sooo sweet. "Where Is The Green Sheep" is excellent. "When I'm Sleepy."

These aren't so much "bed" books, but are wonderful:
anything by Mo Willems
The Curious Garden
anything by Jon Agee

If I think of more, I'll come back and add...

My son in 3 1/2 and loves all types of books. He's into Curious George, Clifford, stories about trucks, stories about animals, fairy tales, anything Eric Carle.....

At bedtime we have three books that he loves. All three are by Sandra Boynton.
OH MY OH MY OH DINOSAURS!
PAJAMA TIME
DINOSAURUS BINKET.

Now, you might be saying, "Those are too young for my son.". I get ya, but he loves these books and has all three thoroughly memorized and can "read" them to us at anytime. They have definitely placed him in the pre-reader category. And they are just FUN to read. I used to pick bedtime books based on MY preferences, but soon realized it wasn't about me and what I liked. It was about what my son liked and thought was fun.

Peace.

I had to be careful about adding new stories since he had some favorites that he had to hear once a night. So I'd read him a new story first, then finish with a favorite story.
He loved anything by Dr Seuss.
He had a board book called 'Eddies Teddy' which was cute.
And around the holidays, "Twas the Night Before Christmas" was a must.
Now that my son's older, we'll read 'A Christmas Carole' a chapter a night leading up to Christmas.

I couldn't read the same book over & over... I don't know how other parents can read the same book constantly--I get too bored! So we have a pretty good selection of books.

Our favorites for that age were:

Richard Scarry's Greatest Storybook Ever. These are quick stories (each a few pages) with lots of pictures, and the added fun of trying to find Lowley Worm.

Sandra Boynton's 'Pajama Time'. (Usually you can buy a set of 4-5 of her books. They're all good for small children )

Mo Willem's 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!'

Dr Suess's 'Go Dogs Go!' and 'Fox in Socks'

Melinda Long's 'Pirates Don't Change Diapers!' and 'How I Became a Pirate'
