Hi all,

I have a question to any of you that have used or do use "Yaz" birth control pills. I have been on Yaz for (roughly) 3 months and I am noticing that I am losing a lot of my hair, (most noticeably in the shower.) Have any of you experienced this while being on this particular pill? I am calling the Dr. on Monday to see what they think...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, the Dr. switched my BC pill and I seem to be doing much better (mood wise,) I still lose hair, but it doesn't seem to be as much so I'm just going to assume that it is my hormones considering I had blood drawn and it's not my thyroid! Thanks to all who responded!!!!

I would def. talk to your doctor. I didn't experience any hair loss and I was on YAZ for over a year, but it did disrupt my hormones which could be causing the hair loss. I would say to discuss different options with your physician because as time went it got worse. My hubby and I decided YAZ was not the way to go if it would disrupt your body that much. I hope your able to find a better solution.God Bless

I read in a magazine yesterday that hair loss can be caused by hormones, so you might need to try a different BC. It can be caused by stress too.

Hello Nina,

When you talk to the doctor she/he will probably want to take a simple blood test for your thyroid. Low or High Thyroid levels can cause loss of hair(I am not sure which one) ,it could be from the birth control pill, but that is just another idea of what could be causing it.

Hope all goes well and you find answers,
M.

I never had side effects (that I know of) from BCP until I went on Yaz - then I experienced everything under the sun. I would definitely discuss other options with your dr.

Nina S.,

I took the Yaz pill for a little over 2 months. I found that I had the same problem, along with over eating, being more moody and enduring PMS symtoms for more then half of the time. Not to mention break thru bleeding even after my period was over.

I was on Yasmin before that and I went back to it. I am doing much better now. Ask your doctor about Yasmin. It is pretty much like the Yaz, but I have found that it is quite better.

Good Luck!

Hello!
I have a 3 yr old son & have been taking YAZ for about 5 months...fortunately no hair loss (just bad hair days!!!) However I don't think the 2 go hand in hand ;)
I did have nausea for a good while & seem to want to eat EVERYTHING sweet if it isn't nailed down! Ugh!! And last month my period lasted 3 days...this month it has been at least 7 days...I'm not 100% sold on this particular BCP. You sure don't see those skinny gals in the commercial laying on the couch feeling sick 1 minute with the remote in 1 hand & a candy bar in the other! he!he!
Have a Good Day!

I no NOTHING about Yaz but I have had continual problems with hair loss since my second child was born--now 2 1/2. I take hair vitamins from the local health food store. 4 a day. They do the trick. Even my hairdresser noticed a difference. She originally got me some Phyto organic ones but they were very pricey and these work the same, just have to take more of them for 1/3 the price. Good luck. I know how freaky it is to have hair falling out!

I am also taking this pill. As a pharmacist, I liked the idea of shorter periods and less side effects, but I find that the first week of my cycle I have mood swings. I would suggests trying something else.

i would go on their website and see if there are any side effects. It could have to do with your hormone levels that you are losing your hair. make sure in general you do not wash your hair every day anyways, especially if you color it. i agree that you need to speak with the doctor on monday. good luck

I've not taken any pill and I've had significant hair loss after both of my children. My sister in-law had the same thing. So I expect it's a normal post-pregnancy hormone thing, not a pill-related hormone thing. We both ended up with pixie bangs/haircuts to cover up the short hair growing in!
