Side Effects of Yaz - Agitation?

Due to a medical prblm my OB put me on Yaz. I haven't taken the pill in over 2 decades and have noticed that since I have been on it, I have been very agitated, short-tempered and impatient. I am not on any other drugs that could have some type of reaction w/this pill. My OB thinks my agitation is unrelated but nothing else has changed in my life. I'm also experiencing fatigue, headaches and lack of motivation (a general blah kinda mood). I just wondered whether there are other women out there that have had this type of experience on Yaz and what you did about it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So, I decided to go off the Yaz when I have finished the box. On top of what I had described, I started bleeding during taking it which my dr said is one of the side effects. (I also read the insert about it). I don't think I'll switch to another pill. I was put on Yaz due to a painful cyst and have decided to endure the pain of the cyst rather than go back on any type of pill. Thanks everybody for your advise. I really appreciated it.
It is now a month later and I am back to normal!!!! YEAH! I will not go on YAZ again, neither will I recommend it to other women.

If you are worse overall than before you got on it then it sounds like you should not be on it. Ask about other treatments.

HI N.,
Make sure that you have the real Yaz....not a generic version of it. I took Yaz for years and loved it then went to get it filled and they gave me the generic version of it b/c my insurance made them. As soon as I started on it, I noticed agitation, fatigue, moodiness that I NEVER had before. I contacted my OB and she called the pharmacy and told them YAZ only. It cost me a little more...but very well worth it. (Plus my doc gave me some extra samples when I told him what happened) A very similar thing happened to a friend of mine as well. Again, this won't help if you have the regular YAZ and not generic...but I thought I would share. Happy Holidays.

Hi N.,

I had the same problems as you when I was on Yaz. I looked up information online and a lot of women seemed to have the same problems. I finally called my OB-Gyn and told her how moody and tired I was and I also didn't get my period for 3 months. They put me on a different pill and I finally got my period. You should talk to your OB-Gyn again about taking you off the Yaz and using another pill. If your OB-Gyn disagrees, then you should find another OB-Gyn. Hope this helps and good luck!

Stop taking it and see if your symptoms go away
Surely there is something else that would not change you so much.Maybe you just need to get your tubes tied .
My nephews wife was on that for about 3 weeks and it turned her into a basket case.Go natural if you can. Good luck.
Remember it is your body and you know it better than any Dr. does.

Hi N.....I never took Yaz, but I was on the pill for many years when I was younger. I had to stop taking it because it did all of those things to me. Over-emotional, tired, feeling blah....I even experienced feelings of impending doom. I was convinced something terrible was about to happen any minute. I cried a lot. Finally I stopped taking it, and within a few days I was back to my old self. I never went back on the pill. Yes, this pill is probibly the cause of all your symptoms. I don't know the medical condition for which you are taking Yaz, but maybe you need to stop....or switch to a lesser dose pill. Good luck to you!

I think that it is possible that the Pill is your problem. I haven't been on that specific pill, but ALL medications have side effects. While on the Camilla Pill, for example, I entirely lost my sex drive. I didn't know that was the problem until I went off it. Try going off it and see how you feel. Everyone reacts differently to medications, and if you think about it, altering your hormones is bound to have some kind of effect on mood. We are women, after all!
Good luck!!

I would definitely stop taking the Yaz and switch to a different pill or a different method. After I had my daughter I went on Yaz which was new to me. It caused low libido, vaginal dryness, and an overall "blah" feeling with me. It has a higher progesterone level in it than other pills that can cause unwnated side effects. I switched to a different pill and no longer have those side effects. So trust your intuition. Good luck!

I have never taken Yaz but was on a different pill for years with no problems. I got off to have my kids and after the second one started back on the same pill only this time it didnt work. I was really moody and had break through bleeding I actually felt like a weight was lifted when I was on the "blue pills"... how sad to look forward to your period huh? My DR put me on a diff pill and I thought it was working fine but I was having severe mood swings, no sex drive, extreme stress issues, no motivation etc. just over all blah. My hair started thinning and my hair stylist thought it was due to my stress, so I actually went to the DR for something for stress. The first med didn't work I had terrible side effects so I waited three weeks and started a different med. After 5 weeks of the new med I was feeling a little better but not what I thought I should be plus my hair stylist was extremely concerned about my hair it is very thin. So I went back to the DR for a med check he wouldnt increase my dose he said I needed counceling and tested me for anything that could cause hair loss (thyroid etc). All the tests came back normal so they just blew me off saying it was probably just the stress etc. The only other thing I was taking was the BC so I went online and researched the side effects, to my surprise the very first google search result had hair loss as a side effect listed right there in the "highlights of the page" after reading through a few of the results it seemed like all of my problems were because of the birth control. I stopped taking the BC but not the stress med (yet), it has only been three weeks but I am feeling A LOT better. I am not as moody, stress is easy to deal with and my sex drive is starting to come back. I am not as tired any more and am actually starting to get my motivation back. My husband (god love him) went ahead and had a vastectomy and we will just pay attention and be careful until he is "clear". I am taking vitamins now that will hopefully help with my hair but I will not know for sure for awhile still. I am keeping my fingers crossed on that one but with the relief from stopping the pill this soon I am really encouraged. Trust your instincts and try to go as natural as possible... this is my new goal and seems to be working so far.

Dear N.,

Sounds like you are getting the standard answer to a real problem - push a pill. Looks like the pill didn't really do the job of giving you back your life. It may be time to look at other options.

I was listening to Dr. Merkle on the radio on Sat (www.3000health.com) and he was talking able a girl who had all kinds of problems. He works by testing blood and hair and her tests came back low in all the blood stuff but her hair tested very high in toxic metals. When she was detoxed and supplemented her problems went away. I have several friend who Dr. Merkle has really helped. At least get tested to see what is really going on.

He doesn't know me so just say you got the link from his web site. He said that radio shows should be posted again some time this week. Listen to some of them or read some of the case studies (http://www.bk2health.com/doctor/nutrition/nutrition-Dayto... ) They will open your eyes.

Have a Blessed Christmas and a Wonderful & Healthy New Year.

God Bless,

S.

I don't know anything about Yaz, however, if your medical problems relate to hormonal issues, why don't you try a natural balancing cream. The cream can calm you, possibly help you sleep better, and balance your hormones -- topically.
If you would like more information, see Dr. John Lee's books on hormones or contact me.

N. - very interesting. I think I might call my OB and switch to something else. I was on Yasmin for a long time and felt that it made me overemotional. My doctor didn't disagree, but then wanted to switch me to Yaz in the late summer/early fall. I've had ALL of those symptoms since I've started Yaz and I thought it was just me and other stresses in my life. I was also starting to consider that I might have some kind of illness going on. I'm so glad you brought it up. It has me thinking!

I have taken this pill and it was awful!!! Had the same symptoms you're having. Felt like I was going crazy. Literally!! If you look on-line for side effects of this. You should find some of the blog sites and all that's on there is people taking about how horrible it was. Your doctor should be able to put you on something else besides this, no matter what health reasons you're having that he put you on it in the first place.

Hi N.... I think your symptoms could have everything to do with Yaz. My Dr put me on the pill (not Yaz) when I was much younger to help control my periods and hormonal migraines. The pill sent me into a full depression, which I was put on more meds for...I was a mess. I stopped taking the pill (and all the other meds that I was on because of it), and I was fine! My gyn worked with my family dr to find one that worked for me, but I still had irritability and blah feelings. Needless to say, thye pill caused many more problems for me than it was helping. I hope this helps. Good luck!

GEt off of it! My girlfriend has the same side affects on it. She went to some site on line and read about other women that had the same affects. She was so upset with herself that she took it for long. Good Luck!

Just another former Yaz user who experienced all of that and more. My solution was to stop taking hormonal birth control all together and use the Fertility Awareness Method. The cost of one book "Taking Control of your Fertility" was cheaper than one month's supply of Yaz and after just a month off the pill I noticed how much better I felt. It took several months for my cycles to regulate.
