Weekend Vegas Trip, What to Do and Not Do??

V., there is so much to do here. It depends on what you like to do. You can hike, helicopter ride, parachute, bungi, shop, shop, shop, eat, shows, the First Friday art displays, party down town, party on the strip, night club, strip club, the lion & dolphin exhibits, shark reef, you name it and it may possible be here. we love just wandering around and looking. There are some free shows, the Sirens of Treasure Island isn't as exciting as it used to be when it was a pirate battle, but it's not bad. I like to wander around and find the prettiest slot machines. I one 125 at a cute 5 cent unicorn machine waiting for the TI show, and it paid for our marriage license the next day. :-)

Ceaser's has a fun mall and it has a "fall of atlantis" anamatronic show that's interesting if you like that sort of thing. The Bellagio has an amazing fountain show at night. They also have awesome chocolate covered strawberries. :-)

We also enjoyed the Luxor and Exalibur. We saw the Tournament of Kings at Excalibur and it was nice.

One thing to keep in mind is that the casinos are HUGE and even if it looks like they're right across the street from each other, it's still quite a distance, so wear good walking shoes.

I stayted at Aria a few months ago and the rooms are fabulous but the hotel isn't. It's very dark and i just didnt get a great feeling like at some of the other hotels. Be sure and take the tram to Belagio and then walk to Paris, Mirage, Caesars, etc. Aria isnt on the strip so you cant walk out your door and go. You need to take the tram first so plan on lots of time and lots of walking. The restaurants in Aria were expensive too. Either way you'll have fun.

Sigfree and roy secret garden. It has dolphins and wild animals. Comedy Show at the tropicana hotel. You can get coupons in the las vegas magazines. Sky diving is alway fun. Shopping at the outlet store downtown. Freemont street at night. Mandalay bay, bellogio and the rio buffet. The garden at the Bellogio hotel (name may be missspelled). Belligo water show, it is outside the hotel and free. Pirate show at Tresure Island, outside and free. The summer penguins, but I cant remember what hotel it is out. M&M world and Coke World. Love M&M world.

If you wanted to see another show while you are there, there is a discount ticket booth next to the M&M store, by the Coke bottle. You can get tickets 1/2 off. It's still a bit pricey for some of the big name shows, but you can also get into some of the smaller comedy clubs for about what you'd pay to go to the movies.

If you are into kitchy - Old Vegas, north of the strip is fun. That's where you'll find the $.99 buffets and such. It's great fun to people watch up there.

NN NY has some rides, in addition to the roller coaster. There are also a few rides at the top of the Stratosphere. Excalibur has a section with carnival games, if you are into games of skill rather than chance.

Cesar's is great if you like shopping. I also really like the Aladin's mall. The ceiling is painted to look like the sky, and every couple of hours it cycles through day to night.

Like pp said, comfy walking shoes are a must. There are a few trams, one behind Harrah's if I remember, which are cheaper than taking cabs.

If you want to get free drinks in a reasonable time, sit at the video poker bars. As long as you are "playing" you can get free drinks. Most limit you to 2, but then you move on to the next casino :) You can totally milk the "playing" and just put a few bucks into the machine and take your time between rounds.

The aquarium at Mandalay Bay is amazing. The Blue Man Group (Luxor) is hilarious and so entertaining and TOTALLY worth the money!! Comfortable walking clothes are a must.

Also, know your limit when it comes to gambling. Its easy to get carried away but make sure you aren't risking more than you can afford to gamble.

1.5 weeks. Wow. That's a long time for Vegas, in my opinion. We took a week trip, but didn't do much gambling...mostly checking out the hotels etc. After 3 days we went to the Hoover Dam and took the dam tour. It was good to get away from vegas and the dam is pretty cool. We also took a few days to go to the Grand Canyon, but it is a bit of a trip. Yes, comfortable shoes, and a bottle of water. It's a DRY heat and I felt like my all my internal organs were drying up. One day I was desperate for a bottle of water or a drinking fountain and we had to hunt for quite a while. We saw Blue Man Group and loved it. I wasn't too impressed with the rides at the top of the stratosphere. The roller coaster is like a kiddie ride and the one that drops you is fun, but I thought we'd get more a sense of being up as high as we were, which we didn't. We'd probably skip that one.

Buy the 3-day monorail ticket, it's a lot cheaper than paying for cabs, and it stops at all the major hotels, so when you get tired of walking (which you will) you can hop on it. When I went for a business trip, we signed up for the Total Rewards card and got a 24-hour buffet pass for around $35. You can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at whatever hotel you want, and they have good food. We ate at Harrah's for breakfast, and Planet Hollywood for dinner, and that saved us a ton on our food budget. We liked just walking and looking at everything, and the Miracle Mile has some nice shopping.

Just got back from a surprise trip to Vegas with my hubby for my 30th birthday. We were only there a couple days, and we stayed at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. It was awesome! We spent a couple hours each day at the pool, which was great because the temps were about 100-105 every day. Then we would walk around the strip and gamble here and there, but mostly just people watch and check out all the casinos. Aria is at a good location in the middle of the strip, so you can go look at many of the casinos. There is so much to do and see there. I agree that good walking shoes are a nice thing to have, but I also wore flip flops on of the days and was just fine. It was our 8th trip to Vegas (we also got married there 6 years ago), so we didn't do any shows this time, but I HIGHLY recommend the Cirque du Soleil shows. They are pricey, but SO amazing! We've seen 4 of them (Zumanity was my least favorite, O and Mystere were incredible), and I was super disappointed in Blue Man Group after seeing the Cirque shows. For the same price, you get a crappy performance in comparison. We've also done the comedy show at Tropicana, although they just renovated and it's now Brad Garrett's comedy stop. We've also been to a magic show, showgirl show, Siegfreid & Roy's Secret Garden, the Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood, etc, etc. You won't be bored!!

Sounds like you have some great suggestions. When we go we like to go to the Carnival Bar, it is an outdoor bar with live music in the evenings and the bartenders do a great show also. I believe it is front of Harrah's. We also liked the wax museum inside the Venetian. When we go we spend most of the time looking in the casinos and people watching. The Wynn has a great restaurant The SW, it is pretty pricey about $150 a couple but excellent food and service. We always buy passes for the tram it is cheaper than paying each time you ride it. Also, if you are star trek fans they have a really neat themed restaurant and interactive tour/ride at the Hilton. Have tons of fun and don't forget your camera!!
