Tipping Etiquette - Burbank,CA

I always ask what the tipping policy is. The salon where I get my hair done does not allow tipping, the stylists are employees and are paid a salary, but I do give small gifts for bday and Christmas. My groomer didn't accept tips either but there again small gifts were given at the holidays. I have found that most people don't get offended when I ask what the tipping policy is. It saves me the embarrassment of not tipping when I should and it saves the provider from potentially getting into trouble with their employer too. When I do tip it is usually 15 to 20%. 15% if service was so so or average and 20% if it was excellent. Hope this helps.

I tip 20% for all services unless the service was just horrid and then I only tip about 10% (that is rare).

I always follow this rule of thumb: If it occurs to you that you might be expected to tip, and you feel that the service was worthy of gratuity, then just do it! It doesn't matter what "ettiquette" says! It will always come back to you in some karmic way, anyway - Spread the love! Gratitude is always the best policy.

Yes, tip. I'd say 15-20% for both places. Maybe not tip at the medi place.

When I worked at a vet office the groomers were usually tipped. They rent space and cannot do many dogs a day with the lenght of time it takes to do a full groom. If the regular Kennel staff did the bath, which includes nails, ears, and anal glands, brush out but no trimming there was rarely a tip. Partly because it could be different people doing each part, they were regular employees being paid by the vet office whereas the groomers it was a full time job. Some people did tip the Kennel staff and it was usually then split.

I never had the laser service/don't know about that one but yes, I always tip the dog groomer. I tip for my own haircuts/grooming too :-)

I tip my dog groomer $5 on a $40 groom bill. Not sure if that is too little, just right, or over what is expected. Maybe someone can shed some light!

You know, it didn't even occur to me to tip for laser service--it seemed like a doctor's appointment. I'm curious what the consensus will be here.
