I don't think you should use steam on hardwood floors. We had hardwood installed about 8 years ago, and I've only used a vacuum and the product recommended by the flooring company to clean it. I would think the steam could get in small cracks and cause a lot of problems. My installer, who is a good friend of mine, said you shouldn't use water on hardwood.

I do not steam mop. I had the floors done about two years ago and he said to wipe them with vinegar and water only, do not use Murphy;s oil soap. Seems to be working for me.

I have another vote for the shark. It's easy. We just swiffer dry and then use the shark to steam the floors. No chemicals and no smells. The amount of steam released is such a small amount that I don't ever worry about damages. It's dry in literally seconds.

I have a Floormate, which works fine (it washes and then dries.) There's also the Scooba (like Roomba, but for hard floors.) I've been looking around and haven't found anything else for hard floors - I don't think steam would be a very good idea because it might warp the wood.

You don't use steam on hardwood floors. You'll dry them out and they will warp. Use a well wrung out mop with Murphys Oil Soap. That has kept our families floors beautiful for 40 years.

I use the H2O cleaner on my wood floors for two years now. The floors are great and I actually think they love the steam in the winter when things are so dry. I used to get seam separation and no more. I only do the floors with steam evey other month and wipe up areas that are needed in between.

I use a Shark steam mop on my hardwood floors. I mostly vacuum the floor, but when I feel it needs a good cleaning, then I use the steam mop. I like it because it doesn't use any chemicals and it doesn't leave the floor wet, so I'm not really worried about it damaging my floors.
