Son's Cheek Is Swollen, Medical Question

Need some quick advice. My son complained Friday night about a sore on his gums. I looked at it thoroughly and was certain it was just a canker sore. By Saturday night, I noticed his face was swelling on one side. The sore was bulging and most likely filled with infection. He was bothered by the sore but is not in pain, no toothe ache. However this has happened once before, a few years ago, and he had an abscess. Today his cheek is still swollen, but it has not gotten worse. The sore has burst and is deflated. I have been givimg him saltwater gargles and children's advil. I have been calling the denist for 2 days now but nobody seems to be in. their voicemail message does not indicate when they will be in, no returned calls, no answer from the emergency line. With it being New Years, I do not expect to get hold of them till Wednesday. Any suggestions? I know he needs to get in and get on some antibiotics, but do you think it will be ok until Wednesday? Since I cannot get through to my dentist, does anyone know if an Insta Care would be able to do anything to help?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! Son is 9. I called the pediatrician and they said they were concerned enough about it that they will squeeze him in today, even though they booked. They said if it is swelling that much he may need IV antibiotics. Glad I called them!

I too would try his pediatrician, and yes Insta Care would work also.

I would get to urgent care for antibiotics. My son had a strep infection on his finger last New Years day, and had to be treated asap with antibiotics.

You don't mention his age. I know you've been trying the dentist, but does the pediatrician have an after hours clinic?
They may (should) have doc on call, at least. Try their office.
If all else fails, take him to a walk in emergency clinic.
Good luck!
