We have tried the strips and they dont work. Our Dr. said I should get ear plugs. That is scertainly not the answer. Please if you have any advice or an ear nose and throat dr. I would greatly apprecaite it.

What can I do next?

Have you tried seeing a sleep specialist and having a sleep study done? He may have sleep apnea. I see Dr. Gomez at ###-###-####.

Good luck!

My husband is a very loud snorer and snore in any position! He has been known to fall asleep almost anywhere at the drop of a hat. He tried the breathe right strips, but they didn't stop the snoring. I told him for years he had sleep apnea but he didn't believe me. It wasn't until our second son was born and I started sleeping on the couch just to get some sleep due to his snoring that he decided to do something about it. Finally he talked to his doctor about it and they sent him to an ENT, Dr. Sandhya Agarwal. He is really great. He sent dh to a sleep study that told him he does have sleep apnea and was prescribed a CPAP machine. They are not cheap (some insurance will cover more than others)and they take some getting used to. But once he does he will sleep better than he ever has (and so will you!). Granted it's like sleeping next to Darth Vader but that is a huge improvement! If my dh gets down to his ideal weight he may not need it anymore, we'll have to see then. My FIL is like the other dh who doesn't believe it is that bad/care. He shakes walls with his snoring! I feel so bad for MIL.

Have hubby checked for sleep apnea. My husband has it and his snoring is unbearable. Sleep apnea is very common. The soft pallet in the back of the roof of the mouth "falls" and blocks the airway when he's sleeping (that's why the strips don't work). He's probably not quite as bad when he lays on his side. There are many options, one being a C-PAP machine that forces air into the throat so that the pallet cannot fall. He would wear a mask at night and a machine would be next to him with a tube connecting. You can add humidity to the machine with a water attachment which my husband would recommend.

It will take some getting used to and he will have to go in for a sleep study first. Insurance usually covers a great deal of it. There are surgeries to try, too, but invesigate them fully before deciding. My husband chose to have his septum fixed which helped some, but chose not do have the sleep apnea surgery as it removes the soft pallat, but can cause scarring in some people that would make the apnea return.

Does your husband fall asleep at the drop of a hat? Is he tired after a full night's rest? With apnea, you don't get the good "delta" sleep and therefore, even though you are sleeping, your body isn't getting the rest it needs. Your organs (heart, etc) aren't getting the rest they need either and apnea patients are more prone to heart attack and stroke. It can be scarey. My husband has slept with the machine for almost 5 years. We still don't sleep together because I find the machine disturbing if I'm trying to go back to sleep after my kid has woken me, but at least I don't have to walk to the other end of the house and tell him to roll on his side because I can hear him snoring so far away!

Good luck. You may have a journey ahead of you. I hope your husband is open to at least talking to his doctor (or another doctor) about it again. By the way, I find ear plugs to be very uncomfortable!

My good friend would snore so loudly that you had to sleep in a different house. Come to find out he had that sleep apnia (spelling probably not right). The doctor put him on oxygen at night when he goes to sleep. It worked so well, that when he comes to Arizona for a visit his room is so quiet that I check to make sure he is alright. Have the doctor prescribe oxygen, hopefully it will work for you as well as it did for him. Good luck.

He needs a sleep study! Snoring can indicate serious medical conditions. Get him to a Doctor through the American Medical Association or a Doctor Referral Service ASA:!

Hi C.!

I have the same problem with my husband. At least your husband will try things. Mine is so selfish, he just tells me that he doesn't snore that loud and that I am just a light sleeper. Me and my son taped him and videotaped him, so that at least now he knows how loud he snores. But still he doesn't care. I am also sleeping in another room and also am miserable. I like my bed not the guest bed. I know I don't have any good advice, I was just wondering if when you get something that you think works could you email me. I am so desperately tired, I'll try anything. Thanks C., sorry that I don't have any good advice. I hope someone comes up with something good. D.
