Slight Numbness in Toe

Well I had wrote a request before including my symptoms which I thought might be due to bumps. But not so sure anymore. Okay here it is.

I am 25 weeks pregnant and for over a week now I have been getting pain in my middle toe and at the ball of the foot where the middle toe is. Sharp shooting pain, throbbing, tingling, burning sensation and it is much worse at night. It has even been keeping me up. Well the last few days I started noticing that it is going numb. It is the type of feeling that you get when you have your mouth numb after dental work. You can feel your lips but in a weird way, you feel like it is swollen but it isn't. That is how it feels on the tip and side of toe. I feel it very faintly when I poke it but not when I touch it. It feels like it is swollen but it isn't. I just have no clue what the cause of this could be. There is a small red dot on the tip of my toe. It is not raised but extremely tender when touched. I see my doctor tomorrow so hopefully I can figure it out but just want to know if this sounds familiar to anyone else. I should mention my to is not red around the nail or swollen anywhere, no smell or puss coming from the area either. It looks as though my toe is perfectly normal.

Oh and I must say I am a stay at home mom so not always on my feet. I don't wear shoes that often and if I do they are always flip flops and I have only gained 3lbs so far. So I know it doesn't relate to those or shouldn't. I did have sciatic problems last pregnancy and my PT told me I have one hip that is turned which causes more discomfort so it could just be hitting me differently with this pregnancy.

Thank you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok well today was the day I had the appt. I told her everything and she looked at everything. She didn't really say much to me. Just that it can happen in pregnancy but tend to see it the numbness in the fingers. I do have back problems so she does want me to continue with my physical therapy exercises. I go back in three weeks and she said if it doesn't go away and moves to the other toes she will send me to a neurologist. And she is sending me to go get some bloodwork done. It is just a waiting game now. Thank you for all the responses.

This is something that certainly needs to be addressed with you Dr!!!!! Only he or she can tell you for certain. Diabetes can cause the numbness in toes in pregnancy I believe. I hope it is all okay and nothing major. I know I had foot and leg pain on and off in my pregnancies just with the extra weight and swelling.
Good luck!

K.,

It sounds like a nerve is being impinged from either your foot, ankle or low back. Check to make sure that your shoes are not too tight and that they have good support.

Our bodies have to carry a lot of extra burden being pregnant too, so it could just be from the weight gain.

K.,
SInce your feet change when you're pregnant, it's likely just your shoes are pushing in a funny place ( a pinched nerve or circulation cutting off ) I had the same kind of thing at happen Basic Training and it went away after I didn't have to spend 18 hrs. a day in combat boots. Try some super comfy shoes or slippers for the next few days and see if you feel a difference. I would still mention it to your doc.
Good luck,
A.

I had the same thing only it was my left foot and the 2 little toes ont eh end. My doctor told me the baby could be sitting on my spine wrong and just happened to be pinching off those nerves. I was 29weeks. After I had him it went away so I maybe thats whats happening with you. Good luck on your appointment tomorrow!

Hi K.,
It sounds like what I suffered from when pregnant~~Sciatica.
I'm not sure about the red dot on the tip of your toe so let the doc check that out. But ask him about the Sciatica.
When pregnant & even now I still suffer from this condition. A lot of pressure on your body, back & it causes this. They will probably recommend some type of anti-inflammatory but not sure what's safe these days. Make sure you ask the doc.
The pain is so much worse @ night because of the pressure on your lower back, sciatic nerve~~if that is what you have. I use to have to jump up & walk around since that was the only thing that would relieve the horrible pain, burning sensation in my big toe. I had numbness, tingling, pain, everything you talk about.
Good luck. My boys are now 17, 14,11 & wonderful.
My boys are great!!Very protective & loyal to me. You have a lot to look fwd too.

K.,
Two things might be happening together. First, the baby might be layng on a nerve and you might have reactions to the foods you are eating. I have had wierd reactions dueing pregnancies and it is always different. I have had numbness from the weight of the baby and I have had the rashes. The numbness usually goes away after giving birth but the food reactions have gotten worse as I age. It is a royal pain to figure out what is causing the problem somtimes.
White cotton socks will help your feet and log what you eat it helps. Also, drink as much water to flush your system of toxins and stay close to the bathroom.(Ha, Ha)

Hi K.,

When I was pregnant with my last child, I had strange Charlie horse cramps in my thigh area, and was told that sometimes Braxton Hicks contractions can occur in that area. The numbness in any area could just mean that the baby is laying on a nerve. When a nerve is pressed there is that feeling.

Keep us posted as to what the doctor said.

Blessings,
C.

Could it be as simple as a pinched sciatic nerve? That will definately cause sharp, shooting, burning pain on one side and even numbness and tingling. You could try seeing a chiropractor to adjust your back and elevating your feet whenever you get the chance. I don't know about the toe, maybe an ingrown toenail?

Hi

I had numbness in my fingertips during the end of my pregnancy. DR said that it was due to swelling of your joints. So, I wouldn't be concerned. The red bump is kinda weird though. Ask your dr.

Just an FYI: if you DO develop numbness in your fingertips during pregnancy, be EXTREMELY carefull with your hands after you are pregnant. I have developed carpel tunnel from caring a car seat. It is going away and really, I was only in serious pain for a week, but it would have been nice to have not gone through that (in addition to recovering from a c section)

Dear K., There are two things I would recommend. First of all, an experienced chiroprator. Secondly, please watch the 12-minute video at www.mineralstory.com and let me know if this might be useful for you. ###-###-####. Happy Holiday, R.
