Hi! My husband and I have the opportunity to go out to dinner this Saturday night without the kids and we are looking for a restaurant recommendation within the Western Suburbs. We are looking for a nice/fine dining experience with a creative chef, excellent food, and a good wine list. Please -- no chain restaurants! Can you help?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the great suggestions!! As of today, we've made a reservation at Chef Amaury's in Aurora. Although we've been there before, it's much closer than traveling to Wheeling or Orland Park. But please don't hesitate to keep the recommendations coming -- we can always change our mind! As always, I am so grateful to all of you for your wisdom and help!

my husband and I do this once in while too, like once year. We go to Lawerys, downtown. They have the best prime rib and very nice. another place is in Melrose Park its called Dannys cafe and deli, my Aunt and Uncle own it. Is not fine dining, its casuual, so its just something to keep in mind for just a night out even with the kids. Its kid friendly. But they have reall good homemade italian and american foods. they were written up in the suntimes and a few other food critics website and stuff. All the other ones mentioned are very good choices too, some I have heard and some I have not. Claras is right by my house and its good food too.

Hope you have a great time with the hubby, its always so exciting to get a night out.

My hubby and I do this once a year, but we don't bother with the Prix Fixe Menu- We just tell the waiter that we would like to throw ourselves at the mercy of the Chef, with wine to match each course. It costs A LOT But is Soooooo worth the experience. We usually eat like 9-15 courses, of foods that we would have never ordered on our own.

Are you actually looking for a fine dining experience or just a good restaurant? Those listed so far...No offense are good resaurants, but by definition are not "Fine Dining Fare". The closest I saw was Coopers Hawk wineries, however their menu is pretty normal, though tasty, nothing exciting. As a matter of fact they are all listed as Casual or something thereabouts. By the true definition Fine Dining is going to cost $50+/person, and that's just per plate, no wine. Think Tru, French Laundry, Vie....
For that in the West suburbs, youre pretty much going to find typical fare, meat and potatos served three ways, and seafood.
Yes you're guaranteed a great meal(though I cant at all recommend Robertos in Elmhurst...Loved by all, and Ive never had worse italian food) but not the creativity and experience youre looking for.

Tramonto's Steak and Seafood
Now if you are willing to go out a little ways, there's always the pairings of Rick Tramonto and Gale Gand to satisfy your pallette, and the drive is so worth it. It is probably one of the better meals I've had for a while, and increadibly creative. This restaurant was featured on Top Chef Chicago. Mac and cheese with black truffles, and Goat cheese potatos au gratin to name a couple of sides. You can also do thier Prix Fixe menu inside the wine cage...AMAZING Experience. These two chef's are world renowned and opened Tru in Chicago. Here's the website. http://www.cenitare.com/. It's not listed as fine dining, though much closer than the other's I saw on the list.

In the future I recommend Opentable.com its free to sign up, and you can make reservations through them, earning points and gift cards. I can usually get a reserv through them when no one else can, and their reviews have been supurb.

Enjoy your Night out!

Coopers Hawk in Burr Ridge. They have great wine flights.

I second Jack Gibbons, although that is pretty far south. A great place in the western burbs is Clara's in Woodridge. It's the best Italian food my husband and I have ever had and they have a good wine list. Their prices are pretty reasonable, too.

These three pop into my head:

Vie in Western Springs
Amber in Westmont
Topaz in Burr Ridge

Have fun!

We have been to the Turf Room in North Aurora a couple of times and really enjoyed it. They have a large wine list and the food is unique. There is a off track betting facility in the back.

I live in Bolingbrook and would recommend Branmoor's also. Good steaks and they were helpful with the wines also.
Another great place that my husband and I both LOVE is Walter Payton's Roundhouse in Aurora. We have been there several times and have never had a bad meal. They also have a good wine list and an onsite brewery. The decor is interesting and unique and they have a large fireplace that is nice to sit near this time of year. Let me know if you check it out what you think. Have fun!.

I really like Branmor's in Bolingbrook. They have a 3 couse prix fixe dining special M-R and they also have a wine tasting special. I think you can get the info on their website. www.branmors.com

Roberto's in Elmhurst. You won't be disappointed. Best Italian food and wine list. Or 100 South in Elmhurst for steaks/chops. It's like a Gibson's type place.

I don't know how far west you are going, but, Courtrights in Willow Springs is an awesome place. Jack Gibbons in Orland Park is good too.
