Seeking OB in Alameda/Berkeley/Oakland

Hi,
We recently moved from the city to alameda. Does anyone have an OB they love out here? I was at CPMC and liked my doctor, but it seems to be a bit of a trek to that part of the city. I am looking for a doctor who listens and is open to being a little more holistic (not super earthy-crunchy, but open to it)

What can I do next?

I recommend Dr. Elizabeth Kanwit, in Berkeley, with the Alta Bates medical group. I love her whole group, mostly women. They do not, however, work with midwives (but she was never against it.)

I love Dr. Carol Gerdes - she is warm, caring and suports people's choices without being way off mainstream. I am about to have my first baby and she will be there with me. I've heard she supports home-birth, too. [Not an option with my insurance :( ] Good luck!

Dr. Carol Gerdes (Alameda) is extremely caring, compassionate and qualified. Only downside is she's in practice by herself (with a nurse practitioner) so you have to plan ahead for regular checkups and sometimes have to juggle appts when emergencies come up. It's all worth it, though!

I saw Dr Carol Gerdes for the birth of my 22 month old daughter. I love her and Nicole her ARNP. I developed a great relationship with them. They are located in the old Alameda Hospital. Dr Gerdes also started a women's health care center in the hospital as well. She is well known and respected in the community of Alameda.

I love my doc - Elisabeth Schleuning - she's with OB/GYN Partners for Health on Hawthorne St. in Oakland. She's very knowledgeable, friendly and also a good listener who takes time with her patients - the one downside of this is sometimes there is a bit of a wait in the waiting room. I've seen several of the other docs in the practice too and they all seem first rate.

Dr. Carol Gerdes - she's WONDERFUL!!!!! I've been with her for about 8 years. Two babies and a myomectomy later, we're planning for our third baby and I can't imagine anyone else delivering our child!

I have been seeing the my OB/GYN since 1979. Dr. Magdy Girgis is the most wonderful physician. He does take the time so I usually scheduled my visits at the beginning of the day or right after lunch. He helped me through the birth of my two kids. I am not sure if his practice is open to new patients but there are other doctors in his office. The office staff is great too! He is located on Hawthorne across from Summit Hospital in Oakland. Good luck!
