Hello, My family and I are wanting to start back attending church. We are looking for a warm welcoming church with a racially diverse congregation in or around our area. Non denominational, christian, or baptist with a good children's program. Also, somewhere a casual dresscode is welcomed. All suggestions welcomed. Thanks

What can I do next?

I was just going to post some info. on a new church in South Minneapolis. This may be kind of a drive for you, but maybe worth it if you haven't felt connected yet. It is non-denominational, probably closer to Baptist. It is bible-based. It's called Acts29. We have a childrens program, but small right now because we are just getting started. All of my children are involved and #4 is on the way in a couple of weeks. YES, the dresscode is casual. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you more details. I know our preacher would love to meet with you too if you had more specific questions.

Hi there-
Not sure what area of town you're in, but on Chicago and 55th street in Minneapolis is Urban Refuge. Its a non denominational church and has a very welcoming and friendly congregation. Its not huge about 150 people, but there are tons of kids (more than adults) and has a great kids program. Our services are on sat eve 5:45pm. There is some diversity and we are trying to expand that. IF you want to check out the website its www.theurbanrefuge.com. Good luck! V.

I'm not sure where you are located but Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul sounds exactly like what you described. It's non-denominational, originally coming from a Baptist background, casual, very diverse. I was intimidated by the size at first, but it is the most welcoming-loving place I have ever encountered! Oh - and my 4 kids love going. It definitely is worth checking out.

We relocated here about a year ago and had a hard time finding a church, so it's not always easy! We've finally settled on Destiny Christian Center in Burnsville. We live in SW Mpls. and it's a straight shot down 35W. (Only takes us 15-20 minutes to get there.) It's a non-denominational church with services Saturday evenings at 6 p.m. and Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. It's not a huge church, but not exactly a small one either. The preaching is pretty straight and many times humorous, and the worship is contemporary and actually rocks! Dress is pretty much anything. (We usually wear jeans.) It's a pretty high-tech church, with a decked-out youth room and children's church. Our son (2 yrs.) goes to a preschool type nursery, where they have worship of their own and a short lesson where they color a page pertaining to the verse they learn. He absolutely loves it, which is great because he had severe separation anxiety most everywhere else we tried. After trying over 20 churches, this one was one of the warmest (the pastor and his wife are always at the door at the end of every service), with awesome music and people who actually seemed like they wanted to be there. They're listed in the phone book and have a Web site (which I don't know off the top of my head. Maybe www.dcc.org?) Hope that helps!

Hi T.,
I love The Living Word Church & World Outreach Ministries (W.O.M) located in St. Paul. It's very warm and welcoming and the most loving & sweet people! It's located just off of University Ave. & Fairview Ave. I'm also a SAHM but with 4 kids that get real upset if I happen to miss church because they love the Children's church. It is non-denominational, spirit filled, and racially diverse. Their motto is "come as you are". Every 3rd Friday eve. of each month, we have a family night with a movie and free food and games. It's really growing. I pray you'll be able to check it out. There are 2 excellent reviews on this site about it also. (Mine included) The address is:

640 Prior Ave. N
St. Paul, MN 55104
###-###-####

If you take university Ave. from Snelling Ave. you go west toward Mpls. and take a right on Fairview Ave. down about a few blocks and go left into the parking lot where you'll see the sign with an arrow. The church is in a huge warehouse looking building and the main sanctuary is in the middle of the building. There is a 10:00AM service on Sunday and a 7PM on Wed. The building is between Fairview and Prior. You can get into the parking lot from both streets.

I guess it all depends on location and what you are looking for. I know I visited Woodland Hills and I personally didn't like it because they put the scriptures on the screen and the Pastor went so fast I couldn't keep up with him in my own Bible. As a matter of fact, I was the only one that carried a Bible into the church, which I though was odd. I like to be able to follow with my own Bible and be encouraged to read it with the Pastor and for myself. That way, I can understand it for myself. Blessings on your search, You'll know when you find the right one for you. I know this one is my home. Take care,
Blesst

Hi, T....

We just moved here a week before Christmas so had been looking for a church as well. We tried one that we really like. We were only there one Sunday so far, but it seemed like a great place. It has all kinds of children's programs, as well as a mom's group. I don't know what the general church population is regarding racial diversity as we only saw one service on one Sunday, but even sitting immediately around us were people from a few different ethnic backgrounds. The dresscode seemed to range, but most seemed pretty casual--I think that would be totally fine there. It's called Faith Evangelical Covenant Church...located on Nicollet Ave in Burnsville. They have a website: www.faithcovenant.org We felt very encouraged that people said "hi" and talked with us. We also have a 7 month old. Hope you are able to find a great church home and family!
Blessings,
V.
