Seeking an Advanced/Master Step Class

Ladies,

Before I had my son I was a member of 24 hour Fitness and loved the step classes offered at the Campbell Rd Richardson location on Monday and Wednesday evening. I would drive about 20 minutes or so just to take the classes.

Since I had my son, I just can't drive 20+ minutes to make the classes anymore. I have joined LA Fitness because it is closer to my home and I love the gym facilities. I just haven't been pleased with the step classes that are offered at my location. They seem to be geared more towards beginners.

I looked on Lifetime Fitness' website (Garland location) and saw that they have a Master Step class, but it is in the morning. If they offered the class in the evening and I liked it, I would probably move my membership from LA Fitness to Lifetime Fitness.

Can any of you recommend a really CHALLENGING master step class? I'm looking for something with some really funky/thriving music and fun/challenging choreography. I live in the Rowlett area. If the class is not too far for me and I like it, I would move my gym membership if necessary.

Thanks,

What can I do next?

I know you said you would rather have a night class but I have taken Abrea's step class and it is far from beginners. She is the head of the dept and will get you into great shape. She has a Tues and Wed 9:45 class so its not too early to get there with a young child. You could always do a day membership for free (guest pass to try the gym) take the class and make sure you like it before you go to all the trouble of switching.
Good luck

J. - put in your request to Galey (the coordinator)...leave a note at the front desk. She has said since the club's opening (Rowlett), that she will add an advanced class once the members "catch on" and need a more advanced class. The choreography for Step 1 plus abs is required to be basic for members that may be new to step. It will take adding an Advanced Step class to get what you're looking for. Hang in there...it should come soon. She's adding classes all the time.

I'm with you...before I had kids, I would hit every 24 Hour Fitness from Grapevine where I worked to Rowlett where I live just to find the best and most talented instructors.

Have you tried Christy's step class on Wednesdays at 7pm? She is really good.

BTW- in my 13 years of being a step enthusiast, I've found that evening classes are usually more challenging and "energetic".

Not sure which LA Fitness you're going to??? And why don't you want to do morning classes? In my past experience, those seem to be the more challenging classes...maybe because most people have more energy in the mornings.
When I go to evening classes (in general..at 24 Hr Fitness, and LA Fitness) they tend to slow it down more for the after-work (=tired from working all day) crowd.

A. at the LA Fitness at Coit/Bush Hwy (190) teaches a Monday 8:30 a.m.; and a Tues 9:45 a.m. class that is killer! I love it! She uses more power moves, more strenghtening moves --- rather than focusing on choreography. I've noticed that sometimes some instructors can put too much choreography in there and you end up not getting a good workout ...just learning dance moves. But A. does a lot of power step moves....lots of lunges.

And usually can't you sub in your own higher power moves....just about every step has a higher/more challenging version - a "power" move. Or just add another riser or 2. That's what I do when I find an instructor that is not as challenging.
