Hey Guys,

Myhusband and I are sending the little one to gramma & papa's for the weekend Friday night-Sunday morning the weekend before Valentine's. Normally we'd probably spend this weekend alone in bed recouperating from our busy lives, but I thought it would be nice to go out and have a romantic night on the town like we did pre-baby. Any suggestions for cozy intimate restaurants in the city or close by? We love italian, thai, steak houses. We live in Bridgeport. Money is somewhat flexible. Also any suggestions for something we could go and do after dinner. We checked into theatre shows, but nothing playing we haven't seen. Besides I would prefer to do something interactive. We have all day and night on Saturday. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone. We went to Rosal's for dinner on Taylor & Racine and it was excellent. Great service and even better food. There was a slight mixup on my entree and they really tried to make up for it by bringing us out dessert and shots of aniset on the house. The white chocolate mousse with fresh strawberries was to die for! I would highly reccomend this, we will definitely being going back. The owner even comes out and says hi at your table. Great prices too.

Hi A.

My husband and I recently ate at Cafe Bernard in Lincoln Park - a charming little French country bistro type restaurant. Quite cozy and romantic, decent prices and a couple of great steak dishes. We'll definitely go back.

I also like Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park for very good steak.

For an interactive activity - do you like museums? I'm not sure what's on at the Field Museum but they usually have pretty interesting exhibitions.

Hope you have fun whatever you do!

Hi, A.,

One of my friends and I write a restaurant blog reviewing restaurants all over Chicago and its and suburbs, as well as in other areas when we travel. I will see him later today and ask about particular restaurants near Bridgeport. If you'd like to see what types of restaurants and food we like so you know if you should trust our recommendations, the link to the blog is below. As you'll see, we mainly like steak, steak and steak, but we do enjoy Italiana nd seafood.

A. -- I am writing a follow up later in the morning, as after talking to Steve, we both suggest either Custom House (Dearborn and Congress Parkway) or Exposure (just south of Roosevelt on Wabash). Exposure has a more romantic atmosphere, but Custom House's is also very nice. Exposure is a small plates/tapas place and has excellent chocolate fondue if you are a chocolate fan. The blog includes reviews of both. We went to Exposure just as it opened, so the service was a little uneven. I've been there twice since, though, and found it to be excellent, and the food wonderful. (I particularly recommend the beef carpaccio.) Both have valet parking.

Hope you have a wonderful evening!

I am soooo jealous!!! My little guy is only 4 months old so its too soon to have him stay at Grandma's for the night, but I look forward to the day when he can!!

The most romantic restaurant I have been to downtown is The Melting Pot. The booths are dimly lit and very intimate and cozy. Its a fondue place, so its something a little different - and they have a great wine service. Be prepared for a long evening, though, because there are several courses and it takes a while to make the food, but it really is a great, interactive way to spend the evening with your sweetie!!

Have fun!

How about a couples spa package? I am pretty sure you can find them at either the Peninsula or Kiva. It is a great way to relax. My husband and I did one in Mexico, and it was great.

A little about me: I am a working mother of four (soon to be five) on the South Side.
