My husband and I are celebrating 10 years together this August. He's planning a fun day for us and I'm planning a dinner. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a nice, cozy, romantic restaurant in the greater kansas city area? I'd even drive to Lawrence if there was something there. We like to try new places but since we've had our 3 lovely little ones we've been out of the loop!!
Thanks,
K.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much to everyone for the wonderful ideas! Looks like we'll be in Lawrence for the weekend so we're going to try Pachamams. But, I am really looking forward to trying some of the restaurants that were suggested!!
Thanks again,
K.

The Melting Pot on the Plaza - hands down best! You can get a private booth. Great food, very romantic. Congrats on the anniversary!

My husband and I really, really like Aixois in Brookeside. It's a french bistro. It takes a few hours for the whole dinner service- which we love. It's nice to HAVE to stop and slow down for a little bit. And the food was out of this world.

I second Melting Pot on the plaza. It is delicious, and if you do the 4-course meal you get SO much food! It is a fondue restaurant, so if you're not familiar with that style of cooking, it can be a great new experience. I could just do the cheese & chocolate courses and be a very happy camper! Congrats on 10 years!

J Alexander's at 119th and Metcalf in Overland Park is dark and romantic (good food). Aixois in Brookside has excellent food (French).

Check out Cafe des Amis in Parkville.

It is a cozy little French restaurant with excellent food and great service. I've only been there once, but had a great time.

There are so many wonderful (non-chain) places to go in Kasnsas City! I would highly suggest Avenues Bistro, Shiraz, Trios, JJ's or the American. They are all located downtown/plaza area. If you want to go to Lawrence, check out Pachmama's.

Enjoy! A. L

Ruth's Chris on the Plaza is an excellent way to celebrate...I got to go there for my birthday, and absolutely loved it. Have fun, whatever you do!

Congrats! That is wonderful to hear! We will be celebrating our 10 year on Saturday! Romantic spots... corporate places-where service is always good and the food is too: Capital Grill-VERY nice!. Then there's always Mortons, Ruth Chris (steakhouses), The Bristol or Seafood Specialty McCormick & Schmick (spelled wrong). Independent ones.... EBT (state Line), Room 39 (mission Farms) 40 Sardines (on 119th and nall), 1924 Main, Reverse (plaza, great food but a little loud), JJ's ( Plaza, great food and service!) and Bentons (Westin)

I hope this helps! I work in the service industry and have eaten @ most of these places. Independent one will give you more variety on flavor, and usually genuine service. Enjoy where ever you pick, they are all great on food and service. Congrats again!

Harry Starker's Private Reserve on the Plaza. I had my weddding luncheon there 10 years ago. It's still a wonderful place with white glove (literally) service!

PS: Don't go the the Melting Pot...then you will have to cook your own meal on your anniversary. Wouldn't you rather be served and treated like a queen?

Our favorite find is Swizzle in the Waldo area. It's on the South West corner of Wornall and Gregory (about 71st). They change the menu seasonally and even bring out different types of butter throughout the night!! Their soups are the best I've ever had and they always have interesting entree choices you won't find anywhere else. It is a small little place...great ambiance with a great little bar. Also, you can walk in on a Saturday night and usually get a seat. It's my first choice for dinner in the city.
Have a great time!

Look into the Melting Pot. They have private sections and they do an anniversary special.
