I've been sick the last few days, so when I'm not sleeping I'm catching up on my DVR recordings....well, I record The Good Wife and all four of the episodes were cut short because of the show before it - not Survivor but Amazing Race....

While I know it's JUST A SHOW - I am bothered that it happened not once, not twice or even three times - but FOUR TIMES!! URGH!!! What's up with this!!?

i know the solution would be to just watch the show, right?

Are things like this happening on shows you record?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We have DirecTV...I've not noticed this problem before with sports...

Jim - gonna have to check my setting to see if I can extend the length of the recording...thanks!!!

I will have to go to CBS.com and check it out as well - thanks peeps!!

I have direct tv too and had the same problem w missing the ending of the show too. First I found them online and watched the endings. Then I added 30 minutes to the end of the sho to cover the football game going over and throwing everything off. Last time it worked and I got to see the whole show. Good luck!

It's due to football season. The networks will not stop showing a scheduled game until it's over. Games many times roll over causing all the shows afterwards to start later.
I don't know much about DVRs, but they may not be as quick to pick-up one show was extended causing other shows to start late.

Dang football! My kids LOVE the Amazing Race but a couple weeks ago we missed the end because I forgot to schedule it to record The Good Wife and we werent home for me to notice that football had run long. Just know that from now until football is over you should also schedule it to record CSI Miami. Then you should get all of the show you want to watch.

It's just CBS because Football runs late. I love Good Wife, so I just set my DVR to record CSI Miami afterwards. Anytime I record something that has a live show on before it that day, I DVR the show after it. You are missing out. Check HULU.com to see if you can catch up. I'm loving this season.

It's CBS. This happened when we were watching American Idol. They went over their time, and the DVR stopped recording just before it ended. OYE! Apparently a lot of people complained about that because the next week Ryan, the host mentioned that they will try to keep it within the time period and to make sure if we have to record it, to record the next program after that in order to catch the ending. The DVR is based on the time of the show, not the show itself...darn I know...I wish it were the other way around. LOL

I LOVE Amazing Race and I want to assure and correct all those that say its Amazing Race going over. ITS NOT... its Football or sports. What ever sports is playing they are doing is semi-live and they ALWAYS go overtime. sometime as bad as 30 minutes. SO ALWAYS set your DVR to record 2 shows past the one you want. Its not just CBS but any network that shows live games.

Under settings our DVR lets you choose the 'program' or an additional 30 minutes, which is what we always choose because of the same thing. See if you have that option.

Its because of baseball or football.

I used to record the Amazing Race but stopped because this always seemed to happen during the season.

I hate it too. I missed most of House last Monday because of baseball. I tried to watch it online but FOX does not put their shows on until 8 days after airing. Boooo

First of all, check and see if the episodes are on HULU and you can watch them on your comuter or laptop.

Second, go to your recordings and record the show after so you can get any leftover that bleeds through to the next hour.

It's probably football during the day on Sundays that is going overtime.

I seriously threw the remote.. it's CBS they don't know how to stick to a freaking schedule and it makes me SO mad, especially because I don't watch the shows that come on after the good wife so I've had to just buy or rent them on iTunes.. I was livid. It happens with Fox too if there's a football or baseball game that runs over, instead of changing the programming info they just push everything back.. makes me SO mad.

I love both the Amazing Race and The Good Wife. I have had way too many times of the football going over ... even going over more that one hour. I also ahve Direct TV, so I DVR The Amazing Race, The Good Wife, CSI Miami, sometimes I even DVR the 10:00 news!!!

Hey, I don't watch many shows, so when I do get a chance to watch tv, there'd better be something in my DVR waiting for me!

This is only because it's football time again and they've been running over making 60 Minutes and everything behind it late. So probably the only thing to do is either record all shows around the show you want to watch or watch it on the internet later.

When I DVR amazing race, I always have to tape the show after it to make sure I get all of it.

Football is on during the day and it always runs over so it is hard to catch up. Happens every season

Either tape both the 9 and the 10pm time slots or just watch them on cbs.com!

It's the football games that set everything back. I feel your pain, since I like The Good Wife, too. And once I lost an entire episode of House because of a baseball game; that really burned me up! Anyway, now I routinely set my dvr to record the entire program AFTER The Good Wife to make sure I don't miss anything.

Yes, it happens to me too! Very aggravating and yes it's CBS....anytime they run over the time with anything prior it'll run into our recorded times. The DVR is set to record from a set time to a set time not from the beginning of a show to the end of it. :)

Yep---It's football. Football goes over about 10-30 minutes pretty much every week. That makes 60 Minutes go over, which makes Amazing Race go over, which makes The Good Wife go over, etc. (I know because I HATEDHATEDHATED that old Rooney guy at the end of 60 Minutes, the guy that whines about the most inane things EVER in that grossly nasally voice while waiting to watch my beloved Amazing Race. I just have to put it on mute and go about my business until we notice it ending.
Just set your DVR to record an extra 30 minutes from now on. :)

Go to cbs.com and watch your shows. You don't need DVR for most regular network shows.

DRVs are set to record when the schedule tells it they are on. Any time the show is pushed back for any reason you will lose part of it. About the only thing you can do is record the show after it and then delete it if you don't need it.

Your problem stems not from Amazing Race, nor from 60 minutes before that, but from the football games running over their allotted times. So now that you know, just set your DVR to keep recording 5, 10, 15, 30, etc. minutes after the end of the show. If your DVR doesn't have that option, also record the show that is scheduled after The Good Wife and then you'll have the whole show.

Oh I used to HATE that! It used to drive me NUTS when this happened. Now we don't have tv and use hulu only. Looks like the Good Wife IS on hulu. You can skip forward to the end of the show so you don't have to watch the show all over again. If that doesn't work, you can search around on youtube. Looks like some people post the tv episodes on there too. The only issue I have with using youtube is that it can get confusing b/c each video has to be like 15 minutes long. So there's "part 1, part 2..." some people write "part 1 of 4, part 2 of 4."

@ Geri - isn't American Idon on FOX? So it's not just CBS.

But yes, the DVR bugs. It's NOT just CBS (but CBS is the least-cooperating with hulu.com. ) My suggestion is just to ALWAYS set it to record the next show too. Amazing Race almost ALWAYS goes over, doesn't it? I think I had the same problem with the same show a few years back.

I ranted about this when football ran over, making 60 minutes run over, making Amazing Race (MY show!) start late! We'd just about find out who was coming in last that day when the recording would end. I figured out that when you set it up to record instead of having it "end on time" just extend a little bit. Usually 30 minutes works b/c the football game doesn't usually go on much longer than that. It's football that messes it all up! Didn't read you other responses, hope I wasn't redundant!

I don't know about direct tv but I know that cox cable and verizon fios have in their on demand section a place for certain shows that air on certain channels. I know CBS is one of the channels they show but they will post the episodes usually within 24 hours of them airing so you can watch it on there. I have to do this with my CSI maimi since it ends up running late.
