JFF - What Do You Watch on Television?

Updated on October 20, 2011
C.R. asks from Olathe, KS
37 answers

I have a few shows that I watch weekly that include Parenthood, Law & Order: SVU, and Dateline. These are all on after my kids are in bed which is the main reason I watch them. We do not have cable so my choices are limited anyway, but what are your favorite shows?

Stephanie H - We love House, but it is on too early so we do not get to see it. :-(

What can I do next?

I have recently become addicted to Fringe. Since it is the fourth season I had to order the first season on DVD and need to order season two soon since I am almost finished.

I am very loyal to my addictions. :)

Okay and it is just one of those shows that doesn't make a damn bit of sense if you just drop in in the middle. :p

I also love Raising Hope, and The Good Wife. Other than that I tend to watch food network.

Oh yeah thanks, House!!

Parenthood (old episodes are on Netflix. New episodes are on hulu!)

America's Next Top Model (lame, I know, but I can't help myself)

Raising Hope (LOVE this show!)

Grey's Anatomy (beginning to be too liberal a show for me. But it can be additcing none-the-less)

Fringe (getting confusing. From the same guy who did Lost. Go figure. This show may just always never really get anywhere).

The Office (Still a good show even though Steve Carrel is gone).

How i met your Mother

And if I have time, or get really bored:
2Broke Girls, New Girl, Big Bang Theory

We don't have cable, not even basic cable comes through, but we netflix current shows like The Office and we watch older shows too, Buffy/Angel, Lost, Dresden Files. Back when I DID watch tv, we watched Numbers, House, Fringe, Greys Anatomy, Scrubs, and the TLC type shows.

I love Ellen Degeneres. I Tivo her show and sift through it right before the kid gets home from school. She is funny and very giving. I love how she is always trying to get guys to take their shirts off. She has some really funny segments like "No or Go" and "What's wrong with this picture". Hilarious.

The only sitcom show we watch is Modern Family...it is flipping' hilarious and I can relate so much to all the family situations..even the gay couple. It is the only show my husband and I watch weekly..after kids are in bed. Other than that we watch the news or movies from Netflix. Occasionally we will watch On Demand episodes of The Office.

Good luck and best wishes and happy tv viewing!!

Haven't had TV for over 30 years, but a few evenings a week, we've been indulging in Netflix videos, including TV series like The Wire (fabulous!), Nurse Jackie (fun and thought-provoking), and The Office and Modern Family (my brain gets happily exhausted by end-to-end humor). For more serious fare, we enjoy In Treatment. And being irredeemable science geeks, we loved Battlestar Galactica.

Parenthood -definitely! I have so many L&O SVUs DVR'd that I can have my own marathon (and just may since my husband is gone this weekend! Yea!). Another guilty pleasure is Private Practice -SO cheesy and such a nighttime soap, but I'm hooked! We DVR a lot and usually have a few nights during the week to catch up on (and keep in mind, the HBO and Showtime stuff airs in the fall OR the winter/spring):

Modern Family
Up All Night (this is a lot like us)
Dexter
Homeland
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire
Nurse Jackie
The Office
30 Rock
House -although we have most of last year and this one we have yet to see
Californication
Curb Your Enthusiasm

We'll also skip around once in awhile and find a PBS documentary or series or something on Nat Geo, Travel Channel or Discovery or History that really sucks us in. There's also a new show on about a weird family living in a haunted house that I have to catch...

And I really can't believe this, but I love the new series - American Horror Story. I hate scary shows, and I hate gratuitous gore (this show doesn't have that, but I thought it would). It is really well-written! I can't wait to see the third episode tonight! My oldest son watches the other three shows listed above with my husband and I, but American Horror Story has way too much sex for us to let him watch it. He's so disappointed.

ETA: I also love Men of a Certain Age, but it isn't on right now.
