Need Romantic Help!

I met my husband two years ago. Last year we had a traveling couple's job and literally spent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week together. We got married October 24, 2008. Two weeks later he left to go work in Iraq (civilian contractor). It was really rough to go from 24/7 to nothing. I see him every 4 months. When he came to visit in March, I got pregnant. We are very excited! I pick him up July 18 for his next visit. The first day he's here (Saturday), we are going to a wedding. Monday we have a doctor's appointment and will be finding out the sex of the baby. I'm so excited!! Monday evening or Tuesday we will be picking up his 7-year old son who will be staying with us until he leaves. During this time we will be in family-mode. I really want to do something romantic on one of the days/nights where it will be just the two of us. We will also not be together for our one-year anniversary. He will not be back again until around the time the baby's born. The problem is, I'm not very good at coming up with that kind of stuff! I am hoping one of you will have a great idea! This is my first post on here, but I have learned many things from you guys just by reading other posts. Thanks in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

I don't know about the date, but I have an idea for your anniversary. My husband and I did this for our first anniversary, and, really, there's no gift I treasure more.

Uncommon Goods makes a "12 Ways to Say I Love You" journal - http://www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?itemId=16729. We bought two, filled them out in secret, and exchanged them on our first anniversary. If my house was on fire, after the husband, the baby, and the dog, this would be the first thing I would grab. Good luck!

Congratulations and THANK YOU to your hubby.

Our regular date nights are dinner, wine bar, socializing.

In your situation though, he might so SO glad to get back to his space, his bed, etc.

I say at least one of the nights just be the two of you at home. Make his favorite dinner (or take out), wear your sexy Victoria Secret (or whatever you know he likes) and just be together. Watch movies, give him massages, take a long walk, just be by his side and let him know how much you appreciate and love him.

I agree with all of the previous ideas. My husband and I spent an afternoon, evening and morning at The Ritz downtown. If you call and explain your situation, I'm sure they'll send a few perks your way. It's nice to be away from the phone, away from any work that may arise by being home, but yet, still alone and away from people. We ate at Fearings for dinner, went to a mavs game, woke up late and had breakfast in bed. But, you could just take a bubble bath, spend time at the spa, whatever. If your husband wants to be home, which is likely, stay home! Our other favorite thing to do is go to Whole Foods, pick out some healthy food to grill, cook together, eat together, snuggle with a movie and wine, and wake up late. Good luck and have fun together!

Hi S.,
First, congrats on your upcoming bundle of joy. Regarding the romance question... I would imagine he really just wants time with you. So perhaps a plan a playdate or two for your stepson so you guys can go to dinner, maybe a movie and late night walk in the park. Something simple. We have two boys ages 4 1/2 and 6. We take them to a local drop in playcare center that's open till midnight on weekends. There are lots of kids there in varying ages and LOTS for them to do. Hope that helps.
