Hello,
My 10 year Anniversay is in November. My husband wants me to surprise him with something. I normally would have no problem doing this but we only moved here a year ago and I'm not sure of what there is to offer. I do know of the Anniversary Inn and that's about it. We are on a bit of a budget, as most of us are.

The last few years we haven't done anything for our anniversary. I get him a card. He tries to take me out to lunch.
My parents were only married 9 years so this is huge for me.
My husband travels for his job, he is gone 2-6 weeks at a time and sometimes can only come home for the weekend for a week. The stress is a lot. The fact that we made it to 10 years is amazing.

He asked me to marry him over the phone after only knowing each oher 6 weeks. It was a Vegas wedding, married at 8:30 a.m., went to breakfast, and that was all, and I went to work the next night, literally.
I had two children and he was told by some Dr. that he would never have children due to vericoscil. Vercose viens in your testicals, he has no cooling off time..... well ladies I was pregnant within the FIRST month of being married and PISSED> Well We had two more chridren.. so our story has a happy ending!

Please this is important to me if anybody can help... Thanks!

We went to The Merritt House which is a bed and breakfast close to 16th street mall in Denver. We got the honeymoon suite with jacquzzi and it was only about $100 and included breakfast next morning. It was great. We walked around 16th Street Mall and had a wonderful dinner.

Happy 10 year anniversary!

There is a fun hotel called FantaSuites in Greeley (Evans). They have different themed rooms and it is about $150. It is close to town so my husband and I went to dinner Maggianos and then had a fvery relaxing night in a jungle room. The hot tub could have fit 6 people and it was a waterfall cascading down to fill it!

Good Luck

I'm not sure where you live, but how abouta Bed and Breakfast. If you live in Colorado, I would suggest going to Brekenridge or up in the mountains. Estes Park has some nice little lodges to stay a night or two without the kids. Any place away from home is nice and it can by romantic.

One year, I had each child go to a friends house for the night (some went to the neighbor's...I have five as well) We went out for dinner, and just as we were having dessert, I told my husband that we had the house to ourselves for the night. I have never seen someone eat dessert so quickly!!! It was so fun to be able to do what we wanted to do, where we wanted to do it without having to worry about someone hearing us! It's an anniversary that we both remember...we're at 34 years married this past summer!

something that would be really pretty this time of year would be a scenic lift ride at a ski resort. i can't remember what the closest resort is to you. i went on a lift ride this summer at sundance, which is a bit of a drive for you but combined with other things in the area could be worth it. it cost $8 for each adult, but with our picnic lunch we ate on the mountain trail, i thought the whole thing came to a good price for the experience.

Park city is always fun. My husband and I went up there for out 10th. We were lucky enough to stay in out mother-in-laws time share. But I hear the raddison is pretty reasonable. It is fun to eat at a restaurant up there and walk main street. I feel like I am getting away w/o actually driving very far. We just went for one night and felt like a new person after being away for a day. Good luck, have fun and congratulations!

S. 2 years ago for our anniversary I had just had a baby so didn't want to leave her for too long or be too far away in case of an emergency etc. we stayed right in Layton at the Out West Lodge B&B
it was so nice--and we didn't have to pay for gas which helped. and we took our own dinner with us to help cut costs that year as well. It was amazing, felt like being up in the mountains away from everything (just don't startle yourself when you open the door and don't see deer lol) it was great. They have a nice two butt tub...and there was a suana out on the back porch of our room. I really enjoyed it, we didn't spend too much and were close to home.
Congrats on 10 years.

S.,
Congratulations on 10 years. When my husband and I reached our 10 year anniversary -- instead of celebrating the one day, we chose to celebrate the entire year. Every month or two months (when you know he is going to be home) you could do something to celebrate in addition to that day. That would be out of the box - celebrate the whole year through.
So on the initial day - either his and her Spa day, B&B or something else.
Then two months later - Hiking trip with a picnic basket filled his favorites.
Then another two months later.... I am sure you get the idea.
Even during one of those times, celebrate the Anniversary and involve the kids.

Congratulations to you. May you have a wonderful celebration.

Hi, I was in a similar situation with budget and time for our 10th anniversary... We were living in a university apartment with 4 kids in our last semester, talk about tight on time and money...So what I did was go through all my old memories of things that he did for me when we were dating,I made up a little verse that gave clues as to what we would be doing that evening. So our first date we went to a movie and had popcorn and a kit-kat so I had a friend deliver a kit-kat to class with one of the clues attached. Then I got a hot wheels version of the truck he owned at the time and painted it the right color and had that delivered with a little verse that said something about going hunting in the truck for grouse and we were having game hens for supper that night.. it was quite an elaborate planning process but very inexpensive. Well... I could give you all the things that I did but I will just give you the gist of it...I had a friend of mine kidnap him after school and take him for a drive around town to get him good and confused and then he dropped him off at the hotel where I was waiting for him for dinner. Then I had a friend set up a movie on the side of a building with a projector, after that we went for ice cream and back to the hotel. It was all things that he loved to do, or that we did while we were dating. He loves drive in movies. He loved hunting so we had game hens. It was all things that were sentimental to us from our dating days and lots of fun. My friends were amazing in the whole process and made the day go great! Good luck, Congratulations and have fun!!!

Hi S.:
Well I just celebrated my 10 year anniversary in July too. I found this great little cabin just outside Estes Park, Called Annies Moutain Retreat. It was adorable. We stayed in a cabin called the moutin cabin. The best part was it was no min night stay and it had a private hot tub and deck over the river. It was all about Black bears and very romantic. We too had not done anything for our anniversary, but I wanted to make sure it was special and it was. Feel free to contact me for more info if you need to. Oh yeah in the summer with high season it was $185 for the night but well worth the time together. We deserve it. 10 years is a big deal these days. Happy early anniversary and enjoy!!

If you had someone to watch your kids for a night you could drive to Wendover for a night, the rooms aren't too expensive and neither is the food, and relive a little of your wedding night with the casinos and all that and you are far enough away from home you can let your hair down a little with out feeling judged.

Can you leave the kids with someone and go somewhere special with him? I bet a weekend away would be nice, espcially since you don't get much alone time with 5 kids, and with his busy schedule keeping him away for several weeks at a time. If you can't go away for a weekend, at least go out for a special date night--if going out to dinner isn't exciting enough, maybe go for a picnic in the afternoon or evening.

This time of year you may be able to get a great deal on a bed and breakfast in Vail. (If you have family or someone to watch the kids for a night). Have a late lunch at a fancy restaurant (much cheaper than dinner), have a wine, bread, cheese, and fruit dinner in your room that evening then go out to a nice place to listen to music, come back to a nice hot bath or jacuzzi together, the following morning have your B&B breakfast maybe go mountain biking or for a hike and head home.

Maybe you can work out a babysitting trade with a friend to offset the cost of the sitter.
Good luck,
R.

Sherwood Hills Hotel up in Logan Canyon is amazing, and they have an incredible restaurant onsite and it a beautiful natural setting. Homestead in Heber is also really cool. There is a natural hot water spring you can swim in or take scuba lessons in. There is also tons of other outdoor activities available, as well as a day spa if you really want to treat yourself! We also like staying at the Little America hotel downtown so we are close to all the concerts and things like that you can go to. Hope you find something great, 10 years is awesome!

We too were married quickly and pregnant in 2 weeks. I relate to your feeling of "pissed" because I just wanted to be married for a while. Anyway, we have happy growing family however we are only on year 4.

Anyway, I am assuming you live in Colorado somewhere. If that is the case I have a couple suggestions.

Estes Park, Bed and Breakfast called Annies Mountain Retreat: http://www.anniesmountainretreat.com/
I can give first hand review of spectacular experience.

Along those lines, there are many fine B&B's throughout Colorado. You can probably find your best deals in ski towns since they are not in their busy season yet.
I was a travel agent for years here in Colorado and would be happy to give further ideas, well nation wide actuall, feel free to respond to this message with questions.

And, for the big advice. Your husband is a man and is probably wanting you to step outside your comfort zone in the bedroom. wink wink. Invest in some lingerie, oils, anything. Spice it up in there and it will not matter where you stay or eat, he will be surprised. :)

congrats on your 10 years and here is looking to 10 more!!!

S.-check out Park City. There is SO many great shopping centers, hotels, places to eat, tourist sights etc up there. You could easily spend a day there. I am not sure what the financies are there but both my sisters live there and they LOVE to eat at Corbins for a great meal-however, I understand it is expensive. Are you into plays? There are lots of playshows such as at Capitol theater and such. Google search it. Check out the Delta Center (I think they changed the name-I haven't lived there for a number of years). They often have great shows and such there! Also-I lived in Bountiful. Another thought if you want to make it simple-go to the top of the mountain, just above the LDS Bountiful Temple-it has a beautiful overlook of the valley. Take a sunset picnic and watch the sun set? Just another thought!
Congratulations on 10 years. Truly a great thing to hear! Let us know what you do!

My husband and I love unconventional dates. Sometimes we go to breakfast or lunch, instead of dinner. We love to drive in the country and take pictures of beautiful things with our digital camera. Sometimes we go to TJ Maxx or ROss and cruise the clearance racks together. One of our favorite things is to take all of the gifcards we have in our wallets and make a date out of using the $0.89 we have left on most of them. Last weekend, we went garage saling together. We walk in the woods. We will stroll down Main Street and window shop, go to the Farmer's MArket, just try to remember and do the things that we did when we were first together. We met in high school and have been together for 10 years, married for 8. We have 3 kids and a very small budget. Go to the dollar store and buy candy for $1 and go to a matinee for $6. I hope you have fun whatever you decide to do! Congrats!

Congratulations! For our 10th anniversary,we went to the Armstrong Mansion in Salt Lake City. Sort of like the Anniversary Inn with the themed rooms except their rooms are named after the months. We stayed in the May room. The jacuzzi was in the tower. So cool. Rooms range in prices from $99.00 to $249.00. Right now they are running a special for dinner mystery and a room for $199.00. You can check out their rooms at http://www.armstrongmansion.com/

Next year for our anniversary, we are going on a Salt Island Adventure tour on the Great Salt Lake. They have lunch tours at 1pm to 2pm for $20.00.

Let us know what you decide to do for your anniversary.

Congratulations on 10 years! That is great. As for plans... keep it simple. If you can get the kids out of the house for a few hours or even the night... DO! Then cook his favorite dinner and eat it in the quite.... Pack a picnic and give him a treasure map to the park where you are on the X....

Just use the time to show how much you appreciated his love, hard work and didication to you and your family. Show him that you see that your fairy tale came true with the happy ending. Guys just want to know that what they do for us is noticed and appreciated.

You don't have to spend a lot of money. A nicely written love letter and time together will go a long way.

On our 10th I geve my husband a contract for another 10 years and joked that we would reassess at that point. Total joke but let him know that I am in it for the long run.

Have a great time!

You've gotten some good suggestions, here's a few more: The Brown Palace for the night, dinner or a spa treat, The Stanley (Historic but better known as the hotel in The Shining), The Broadmore, A little less pricey but recently redone would be Mt Princeton hot springs. Not knowing your budget, childcare situation or inclinations is limiting. Maybe a visit to Facinations or Secrets for a few items to spice things up? How about a couples spa day or massage? Since he travels so much and you've occupied youself by having babies some time away together is almost a necessity, even a couple nights camping, Colo is over 60% parkland so there are lots of choices!

Other future ideas to keep the appreciation flowing, regular sexy text messages, send him flowers once in a while and encourage him to send you some. Got a web cam? You two could have fun with that while he's traveling. Little notes tucked into pockets or unexpected places to discover as he travels. You've done great keeping your marriage going but don't underestimate the travel, my guess is part of your stress is being so busy with children - that was your choice so enjoy them. I once asked my grandmother how she and grandpa had manged a long marriage (68 years) she gave me a funny look and snapped out, "he was gone a lot, that helped!"

S. first let me congratulate you on making it to 10 years. That is awesome! I understand the varicocele thing I have a beautiful 9 year old son that was born from not using birth control after the doc told my ex the same thing. haha jokes on us I guess. I dont know what type of options you have but maybe spending the weekend together at a motel with just the two of you. Having that honey moon you never had the chance to. Maybe you could do a vow renewal ceremony? Maybe when he comes home you have the kids gone and you dressed in some little french maid costume or something like that. There are lots of things you can do like that for cheap. With halloween coming up there are a lot of sexy little costumes out there and maybe some role playing is in order. I dont know if any of these things are fitting for your relationship. I am trying to think inexpensive. It would be awesome if you guys could do vegas and a renewal ceremony. There are several cheap ones there and you could get airfare for 69 $ each way if you check on southwest air. Good luck and I hope your anniversary is wonderful. Congrats again

CONGRATS on a happy ending, my favorite kind.
I say go to a local spa around here for a his and hers day of spoiling, pampering, massages and chocolate covered strawberries, then dinner out. Most are awesome and treat you like royalty.
Find a sitter if you can for the full day into the early evening and overnight if possible so you all get some quiet and one on one time! How exciting! YEAH! I got a prenatal massage during my pregnancy and another time got a "queen for the day" treatment and it was HEAVEN!!!!!

It sounds like you have gotten a lot of great advice so far. IF you do not want to spend the night somewhere, but have someone to watch the kids during the day, something you might consider is a day hike. My hubby and I started a new tradition last year of going hiking, just the two of us, on our anniversary. This may not seem like the most romantic of ideas, but it's just the two of you helping each other and talking one on one with the incredible outdoors. (I am not the most fit person and neither of us are campers, so this is doable.) You can take a picnic lunch/dinner and just enjoy each other.

Hi S.,
I didn't read all of the other responses so I apologize if I repeat someone elses advice. My Husband also travels a lot for work. It sounds like your husband is gone so much that traveling for this occasion may not be all that desirable for him. My suggestion would be to find places for your kids to go for a whole day and overnight. Have your house clean and inviting, flowers, candles etc. Cook a great meal and go out to a movie, or go out to a great dinner and rent a romantic movie to watch at home. Go for a fall drive in the canyons. Just take the whole day and night to be devoted to each other without any kids. With five kids and all of the traveling, that kind of day may be just the memorable day you are looking for.
Take care,
B.

Have you heard about The Hines Mansion in Provo? It's a cozy little bed and breakfast in a historic building. The floors are kind of creaky, but everything is beautiful there. We always stay in the library room. It's really fun. There is a little hidden doorway in the wall that you have to turn to get into the bathroom. If you go up the spiral staircase there is a loft with a hot tub where you can lay and watch the stars through a skylight. When you arrive, there are warm freshly baked cookies ready for you and the breakfast in the morning is super yummy.

Hi S.,
I HIGHLY recommend Gold Lake Resort in Ward (about 30 minutes outside of Boulder, up Boulder Canyon. It is the most beautiful, romantic place on earth...

Check out their website @ http://goldlake.com/

I can't say enough about it... the cabin's are awesome (rustic, yet very plush), the restaurant is amazing, there are loads of beautiful hot pools, a lake that you can canoe or kayak on, a spa, etc.
