Need Help Naming Our Puppy!

I suggest Laila--as in Laila Ali-- the beautiful, strong boxer and daughter of "The Greatest" Mohammed Ali.

Hi B., The first name that came to my mind was Laila, too. I'll second Sandy's recommendation for the same reasons. And-- it's a beautiful sounding name.

We used to have a male boxer so we named him jabber (keeping with the boxing theme)! For a girl you could aways use jabby! Good luck and I so miss my boxer! Sweet, beautiful dogs!

I think a name that means something to you is important. Or a connection to the dog. Like, what was the ladies name who got it from the shelter? (either first or last name), What was the shelter's name? Maybe that would work.

I see that both of your children's names start with T, so I would think a T name would be a great choice too. So all the "kids" start with a T.

When I see the description of Black and Light Brown (Tan) it makes me think of a Black & Tan drink that has Guiness in it, maybe somethin like that?

Let the kids help with the puppy's name! They come up with amazing names. My grandkids named their dog "Feelie." To accustom her to her new name, call her and give her a small treat each time she responds. Enjoy!

My sister had an awesome Boxer that she also adopted. They renamed her Betsy. It was a perfect fit.

There are so many great names out there and I truly beleive that a name will come to you when she has been around for a bit and you see her true personality. One fun thing I have done with all my pets is give them their own name but incorporate the families middle names with the names we first came up with... Our animals names are, Tipsy Marie and Archie Michael.

I know you said less masculine, but when i closed my eyes and visualised her, the name "Batman" came to me. I don't know why =)

I say pick a fun name that could not be used for a person. I had a rock solid lab and pit bull mix that looked really tough, so I gave her the wimpiest name I could think of "Foofanu", then we called her "Foo", and sometimes "Loopy" for short. Good luck.

our boxer's name is Roxy. I also know ones named Toby, Teddy, Ali, Rosie, and Lucy. Molly is good, Maddie, Charlie. Anything with an -ie ending. Good luck and enjoy your puppy! Ours is 2 1/2 and she still acts like a puppy!!

I had a bulldog mix girl at one time and her name was Gem (like jewels cause she was our little gem! it was cute and fitting I thought.) Jewels is also a cute pup's name

My other favorite dog's names that I have had are Mitzie and Saydie (they were bulldog/shih-tzu mixes)

I think that the name cookie is cute - as in a "tough cookie" or sammy. I like the idea to have the kids help pick out the name. I can only imagine what my 3 year old would pick. We woud end up naming her fruit snack or something. LOL.

Three ideas:
My grandpa had German Shepards throughout my childhood, and each one successively was named Missy, so I have a fondness for that name.

Your description of her made me think, "Gorgeous!" So, you might name her Gorgeous, and nickname her something like Miss G.

And, lastly, you could name her Puppy, because she'll always be a puppy in your heart.

Does your family have a favorite movie, book or hobby? You could name her after a movie or book character, athlete from a favorite sport, or something related to a favorite hobby or activity. A favorite flower--Daisy, Rose, etc.? A friend's kids love Scooby Doo so they have a dog named Daphne. Some of my neighbors love basketball so they have a dog named Kobe. Another neighbor has a dog named Pippi after Pippi Longstocking. My dogs were named with a theme--Norse mythology. One is Loki, god of mischief, and the other is Freya, goddess of fertility (although she isn't fertile!). Another option is to look through a baby naming book and see if anything appeals to you. What about naming her after one of your kid's favorite characters? Do they like DORA? Or if they like Blue's Clue's you could go with BLUE, or MAGENTA. If they like Clifford, you can use CLEO or EMILY. Or you could go with a Golden Book theme....POKEY or TOOTLE (the train) or TAWNY (tawny scrawny lion)or SCUFFY (the tugboat).
Those are just a few thoughts to get you going.....it's so fun to name a new family member! Good luck!

When we got our puppy, we read it was best to have a sing songy name- one that ended on an up note. We threw around a bunch of names that ended in the Y/ ie sound and ended up with Riley. If Hurley isn't working for you- try something with a softer beggining as the H sound can sound a little rough- or like you are repremending her... Make sure whatever name you end up with always sounds positive and the dog will respond to you. Good luck with your puppy!

My cocker spaniels name is Tara-Up and we call her Tara. She was named that by my nephew because when she was a pup she would tear everything up.

I like the name Maddison or Maddy for a dog... but whatever you name it you need to teach it to come to it's name. Get a hotdog and cut it in pieces then with one piece in your hand wave it quickly in front of the dogs nose so she can smell it saying her name and bring it up to your nose saying "watch me" in a commanding voice. This will be the first command to get the dogs attention when you need to. So practice it a lot with her. After that you can get her to do other commands like stay and come and even little tricks like roll over using hot dog pieces.

Two syllables are best for pets! These are just off the top of my head: Mandy, Wendy, Lily, Rosie, Anna, Ruby, Sandy, Ruthie, Clara, Tara, Lola, Lana, Karla, Darla, Jolie, Gertie, Junie, Ellie, Ella.

We have an Alma (means spirit in spanish) and a Basil (cuz I love the spice). Good luck! Oh, Alma is a rotweiller/lab mix and Basil is a pitbull/lab mix...

I like the name Reese or Hurley.... they are both very cute!
We had a boxer named Vernon, that is what the family he came from named him... we were looking to change it but couldn't agree what to name him, eventually it just grew on us and he kept his name.

But I think I like Reese the best of the 2. :)

for some reason i like the names Jersey,Sky,Robin, and Kes for a dog. we gave our dogs 2 names like people, i don't know why. they are called Norma Jean and Ellie Mae.Good luck with the puppy, i am jealous my husband and i have always wanted a boxer mix, but we don't have a fenced in yard to get all of its energy out. They are definitely wild dogs. lol

We never owned a boxer . . . only Chihuahuas - we just lost one in June. But, feel free to take the name . . . her name was Sashi, pronounced Sa SHE (the a has a short vowel sound). A lot of people liked her name - she was black and tan with white paws. We called her Sash for short. Our other dog is Dexter but I know you're shooting for a girl name - just had to share. Good Luck!
