Looking for some insight. I am planning on having my Mirena removed next month. Just wondering what others have experianced. Is it painful at all?

What can I do next?

HI T.
I had mine removed last year and it was painless. Actually a lot easier than putting it in.
Good Luck

Hi -
It was nothing compared to having it inserted. A quick pull and that was it. No side effects afterwards. The best decision ever to have it removed. Good luck.

Hi T.:

When I had this done it was a slight cramp and as it came out it gave a simlar feel to when a tampon is removed just not as bulky.

Having it put in was far more painful.

Haha, i couldn't tell you how the RIGHT way to have it removed is... but mine fell out about 5 months after i had it put in. I had NO idea until about 3 weeks later. So i'm imagining it can't be too bad if it can fall out without someone knowing.

Hi Teri- I got mine removed about a year ago and I remember it being very simple. There was an instant cramp when it came out and a little cramping and spotting but nothing too heavy or painful. The most frustrating part was my mixed up periods- which I'm not sure everyone gets though. Good luck!

I had mine removed January of last year, didn't hurt a bit. The doctor had it out in a second. I didn't have any other symptoms after that either.

Hi T.,
I have a 13 year old and almost 2 year old as well, and just had my mirena removed. Sounds like we have a few things in common! I had mine removed at the end of January. It takes literally 2 seconds, and I experienced no pain, cramping or discomfort. I spotted a little afterwards, so throw on a panty liner before you leave the office. I had pretty heavy bleeding a few days later for a few days (it was very strange after not having a period in 2 years!). I had my first real period 3 weeks later (again, pretty heavy) then again 26 days after that. Everyone is different though....just make sure you have some of your favorite sanitary products on hand...I forgot to get new supplies (again, after a few years) and had to blow the dust off of the BIG pads I came home after having my son! Good luck...it's no sweat.

I had mine out last May. I remember it being a little crampy, but wasn't a big deal afterward. I recommend asking your OB, you could probably even call and ask and the receptionist or nurse could probably give you their standard answer.

Hi T.,
I had mine removed the end of january....it wasnt too painful...like a bad cramp. I have had some heavy periods since with some clotting...i'm hoping that will eventually go away (the heaviness and clotting was only for a day or two at the beginning of my period). good luck
