Hi moms! I will make my story short by saying that I was raised by my mother and my adoptive father. My mother divorced my birth father when I was a baby then remarried. They felt it best at the time to have my mother's new husband adopt me. Much more to the story but...my question is this: My birth father has found me. I am 42 years old and he wants to reconnect with me and meet my family. We are going to meet him in March and I would like to bring a gift. Just a 'hostess' type gift, nothing mushy or fancy. I was thinking along the lines of a game (I know they like to play games), a bottle of wine, a dessert, a picture framed of my family, and what else? I don't know much about he and his wife but I would like to have a nice gift for them when they welcome us into their home. They are very excited that they have grandchildren now and a son in law. Very exciting....would love to hear your suggestions. Thank you in advance!

So What Happened?

Ladies, I love, love, love your suggestions! I think I am going to do the wine, game, dessert, and a framed pic of my family and then on Father's Day I will give the album of pics from my childhood. That seems an appropriate time to give something like that. Thanks so much!!

Could you give him an album of copies of photos of you growing up? I'm sure there is a lot he is wondering about on what he missed while you were young... I think that would mean a lot.

I think wat you have is perfect!
A basket of wine, dessert, framed picture of your family.
If you absolutely want to add something else, you could, in fact, do a "timeline of your life" with pictures of when you were a child growing up.
For example, you could put in a picture of your first day of school, or when you lost your first tooth or whatever you have.
They have sites like, Shutterbly.com where you can make a little book.
I received a few of these for Christmas from friends & they got theirs at
Costco & Hallmark (connections).
So happy to hear you found your birth father. Here's to a fabulous visit!

For the first meeting I would stick to the game, wine, dessert, or framed photo. Down the road, as your relationship grows, I think, is the time for childhood photos, etc. Good luck! How nice that he found you!

Don't know what your stock of pictures is, but if you could put together a photo album/scrapbook of your own growing up, I imagine that would be a terrific gift. A way of sharing and it could become a "pride book" that he will cherish.
