Birthday Present for First Time Grandma

My husband and I have been married for almost two years. We have a son who is 3.5 months old. This is his moms first grandson, so you can imagine how excited she is to be a grandma. She loves our little guy so much. Her birthday is coming up next week and I would love to get her a special gift from her one and only grandson. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Pictures always go over for my family. I recently saw at Walmart a keychain digital photo frame. It holds a few differant pictures and she can take them with her and show him off.

For mother's day, my husband got me a hand-made pendant with both of my kids' names on it (sterling silver) from www.YumYumBubblegum.etsy.com . You can go to the main page and type in "personalized sterling silver pendant necklace". It's an online marketplace for artisans, so there are HUNDREDS of jewelry makers on there and you'd be sure to find something to suit the new grandma! For my mom's birthday, we got her a cuff bracelet with all the grandkids names stamped on it from another shop on there (www.kathrynriechert.etsy.com, she also has poetry cuffs).
www.TvTrayArt.etsy.com does photo charms in very cute styles. Shutterfly also does great photo books! Good luck!

A piece of jewelry that has your son's name or is symbolic of him would be wonderful - perhaps something you can add onto later. This time of year, planting a tree in her yard for him would be another idea.

Hi J.

I am sure you will get lots of great ideas. I told my mom and dad that I was pregnant by giving my mom a small photo album from Babies R Us that said "Grandma's Brag Book" on the cover. I am sure this would be great, especially if you fill it partialy with photos, boht of just tthe baby and of the two of them together. Leave some blank for future use, too though!!

What about a gift certificate for a portrait studio for some baby and gandma pictures?

For the first year or so I also used a washable ink pad and put my son's handprint inside cards for grandparents as his "signature". Keep that in mind for her first "grandma" birthday card, too!

Congrats!!!

If you are looking for a small, cute idea- I think getting children's book about grandma. (I just bought one for my dad from his grandson and he liked it). It was so my dad had a special book to read to him. :) If you are looking for something a bit more special, you could do a ring or other piece of jewelry with your son's birthstone on it. Good luck!

I suggest an elegant pin with Swarovski crystal stones that says "When a child is born, so is a grandmother." Grandmas love this because it gives them a chance to brag about their new little darling whenever someone comments on the pin.

If you'd like to go the photo route, I also have an exceptional, handcrafted frame that says "Some moments we never forget because our lives are forever changed by them." Perfect for a photo of the first time she held her new grandson. I just put a photo of my dad holding his brand new (but now 18-year-old) grandson in this frame and put it out at his 70th birthday party. He was incredibly touched and teared up at the memory of the moment he became a grandpa.

These and other heartfelt gifts can be found at www.barefootparties.com/laurarenton. Click shop, then catalog and look at pages 6-7 and page 34 for the above mentioned items and some other cute grandma gifts. I'm local and have most items in my inventory, so I can get you something quickly if you see something you like. Please browse and enjoy. All my contact info is on the site. Congrats on your new little bundle of joy! L.

My daughter was born in late July so for that first Christmas, we made the grandparents a picture book, detailing her first few months of life... You can make them on many different websites but I really like using photoworks.com. It's a professionally bound book and you can put pictures of many shapes and sizes throughout. I also searched online and found many poems and quotes related to babies and grandparents and put those throughout the book as well. You can do searches on the internet for good poems or quotes to include. My mother in law sobbed tears of joy when she got the book so I think it was a hit... Even my mom (who isn't a cryer at all) got teary eyed.

Hi J.. For my mom and dad, I also wanted to get them a first time grandparent present. I was at Westland Mall, near JCPenney, they have this booth where they make just about anything with a picture on it. I had them take a picture of my daughter an had that picture put on a mug as well as a photo frame, both said a little poem about grandparents. When my twins were born, I had the same done but also had the oldest in the picture as well. They are displayed in my parents house and look so nice side by side! hope this helped.

You can't go wrong with either a photo album or a garden "stepping stone" with your baby's footprint &/or handprint (they sell the kits for these @ any craft store).

A framed picture of her holding him on the day he was born (her life changing day!) Or better yet, a partially filled album, with a note that says you'll soon fill it upwith more pictures.

What we did for our parent's christmas gift was go to a pottery shop and paint a fame with our child's foot on it. Than we put a picture of our daugther in it. They both thought is was a thoughful gift. We also for a another gift giving holiday went to Things to Remember and got grandma bracklets for the grandmas and engraved our child's name on it. Just a few ideas :)

There is a super cute book called "Grandma's Purse" that I got for my mom for a mother's day present. She keeps it at her house as part of her toy collection that the kids play with there. It is really nice to see her reading to the kids and the theme of the book reinforces the kind of freedom that grandparents get to have with kids that parents really can't. You may want to save that one for when the baby is older. For an infant, of course, any sort of photo album you can make for her real purse will be well-loved. There is nothing like photos to make a grandma smile (and show them off to everyone!)

my husband got me a bracelet from MommyBracelets.com that you can put his name and birth stone on them. He also found a bracelet at things remember for his mom that said grandma on it and there is a heart that hangs from it that you can have your son's name put on it.

A keychain that allows a photo to be slipped in. Put a photo of him (close-up) in it so that she can show him off everywhere she goes. Grandparents love to show off their grandbabies and this will be a perfect way. Then give her a nice frame with a picture of she and your son together in it. Get something that matches her decor that she can keep on either her nightstand or in her kitchen ( a room she is frequently in).
