I have a 18 month old baby girl and she still is the only child. She also is the only Baby in our neigbourhood. I would like to know if there are some kind of playmornings around Ft. Sam Houston or the north eastern side of San Antonio? Where mom and child can play with other children or moms :-).

What can I do next?

Go online and look up MOMS club of the Schertz area. I am a member and it has been wonderful for us. We are also military and new to the area. It has been a great outlet for getting to know people and just getting some "mommy" time. Everyone is super friendly, there are plenty of activities to attend (if you choose), and it is only $20/year! You can get a better description of the club online. If I can be of any help just let me know. The members are about 50/50 military wives.

Hello N.,

My name is S., I have a 25 month old daughter. She is an only child and I am looking for other children for her to play with. I am also now a stay at home mom. I moved to San Antonio almost a year ago and haven't had much luck finding other children for my daughter to play with. My daughter's name is Juliana. We live off of O'Connor. I am in the Air Force reserve and my husband is a fireman. Please call me at ###-###-#### if you would like to get our daughters together.

God Bless, S.

Where in San Antonio are you located? I'm also a military spouse and we live in Converse, close to Randolph AFB. My son is only 7 weeks old so he can't play very much yet. However, I think that there is a Castle Hills play group for stay at home moms. I'm a member of San Antonio Working Mamas (I'm a teacher who is out for the rest of the year but I'll be returning to work in the fall). I believe that I just did a Google Search to find addresses.

Hi N.,

I am a military wife too (Air Force) and we are stationed at Lackland. Have you called the Child Development Center on base? They should have weekday morning playgroups, specific to your daughters age. I went to a playgroup on our base when my daughter was younger and it REALLY helped wth meeting people ..... most moms there also got together outside the playgroup and went to the park, mall, etc... The CDC at Lackland had groups for newborn - 4yrs. old

Just a suggestion, but it worked for us - it can get lonely if you are a SAHM in a new city!

Good Luck :-)

Hi N.,

I would check out the MOMS Club and see if they have one for your area. You can fill out the form online and they are pretty good at contacting you with the chapter info. www.momsclub.org

They usually have a lot of different acitivities- park days as well as playgroups and its a good way for both you and your daughter to socialize.

Good luck!

Hi, N.,
I have a 17 month old daughter (also an only right now), and I too have been trying to get into a playgroup. We do Little Gym together and she goes to a Mother's Day Out one day a week, but I'm dying for something to do Thursday or Friday. There are some great MOPS programs here, but they don't work well with our current nap schedule--plus they don't meet in the summer (aargh!). You could check on MOMsclub.org, but I don't know if they meet in the summer. Also, if you'd like to give it a shot, I would be interested in giving it a try and hosting a playdate here for the girls. We live 2 miles off I35 in Schertz/Cibolo (about 20 minutes or so from Ft. Sam). We are a military family also (AF). I hope that helps some, and please just drop me a line if you'd like to try out a playdate! Thanks, B.

St. Samm has a program where moms and tot's get together. Check with Family Advocacy to get a point of contact.

Welcome to San Antonio,

Hey! You e mailed me, but there wasn't a way to respond to you. I got some responses, but none really panned out yet. There is an international group called MOMS group that has some chapters here in SA. They have playgroups, mom's day out, etc. I haven't found one in my zip, but maybe you'll have better luck. We could get together some time and let the kids play. My son is 16 mnths and also an only child (except for our dog, which is why I need to get him around other kids before he starts to think he's a puppy!!) Let me know and we can try to meet up!! M.
