Looking for Pediatrician Who IsVery Supportive of Alternative Vacc Schedule

I take my 2 kids to Mesa Pediatrics and see Dr. James Smith. I have no idea how the other Drs in the office respond to delayed/spaced vaccinations, but Dr. Smith has not given me any trouble with it. I have a 4 mo old boy that I'm spacing vaccines with and so far so good. I love Dr. Smith's relaxed approach and gentleness with my kids. He's very laid back and seems to be very competent and thorough. Mesa Pediatrics is located on the NE corner of Greenfield and Guadalupe. Best wishes! R.

I'm not sure what part of the valley you are in, but I recently switched to Happy Kids Pediatrics and they have offices all over the valley. I go to the one in East Mesa on Hampton and they were very supportive of my vacc schedule I wanted. No pressure AT ALL! It was great. He has a son with autism and although he doesn't believe it is because of the immunizations he in no way pressures anyone else to get them. Just has you sign a waiver stating that you were informed of the vaccinations and opted out of them. No big deal. I was concerned the first time I went that it would be an issue, but it wasn't. Highly recommend them. He is very nice and laid back and I've only been a few times, but their office acts like they've known me forever when I call or go in.
I can tell you one office that is NOT supportive........Gilbert Pediatrics. My sister took her little boy in there and told them they were going to wait on the shots and they made her feel extremely guilty and made her read an article about vaccinations and everything...to the point she ended up getting the shots against her wishes. Horrible. It's a bummer because they are great doctors. Anyways, hope this helps.

I don't know if I could call my ped "very supportive"- but he has NEVER given me a hard time about opting out of different vaccinations, or choosing to do some "off-schedule"...
My kids really like him and his beside manner- he is nice, not too silly, but kind and professional....and I appreciate the fact that he respects me as a mom and lets me "call the shots" for my kids.

Medhi Salek at Pueblo Pediatrics- he's the only one I really like in the office.. they have an office at Baseline/Country Club and a new office at ValVista/202.

At least you could schedule a short interview with him... he's definitely worth considering.

We have a 7 week old boy and are of your same mind re: vaccines. We found Dr. Sara Bode at Phoenix Children's Hospital. She is FANTASTIC, is very open to alternative ideas re: vaccines, never once has pushed ideas on us, has 2 boys herself, is young, friendly, I could go on... we have been SO pleased with the level of care we receive there, and while we're more holistically minded, it's good to know that if our boy ever needs it, all of his records are already housed at PCH.

Hi R., my son just started K and needed about 4 to get caught up. however, my boyfriends now 12 yo daughter had a SEVERE reaction to her shots at 18 mo's, almost died and has brain damage because of them. She is now mildly retarded and autistic. so of course i have seen first hand what these shots can do...i told my son's school about it (btw my 8 yo daughter has had all hers with no problem) and they just gave me a form with a box to check off saying i will not be getting him the shots because of religious beliefs. the other box said for medical reasons, but needed a doctors signature. so you may want to check with your school and see if they have something like that and if that would work for you if you are looking to not get the shots. best of luck to you whatever you decide to do!!!
