I am following the alternative vaccination schedule recommended by Dr. Sears. I was wondering if any of you could recommend a pediatrician who is able to provide mumps, measles & rubella vaccine components separately rather than in a single MMR shot. I live in North Seattle area. Thanks.

So What Happened?

Thank you for all of your responses. I confirmed that the Community Health Center of Snohomish County (http://www.chcsno.org/Default.ashx?p=1000) does offer separate mumps, measles, rubella shots. However, they don't bill insurance, so each shot would run about $75. You are welcome to submit the receipt to your insurance company to see if the shots would be covered.

When I asked my Ped about this she told me that I could go to the Snohomish County Health Clinic and get them seperated. Good Luck!

My girls go to The Kids Clinic..the pediatrician is Dr. Carol Doroshow. Her office staff orders the individual vaccines (there is a minimum order amount and some are not manufactured frequently so it might take awhile). Last year my girls did the rubella only vaccine. The year prior we did measles only.
Her office is in north Seattle: 12317 15th Ave NE #103 ###-###-####

If you don't find one who will, here's what Dr. Sears says you can do:

http://askdrsears.com/faq/vcn1.asp
"How can I get separate Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccines if my doctor won’t order it for me?"

"Many parents now want to split up the MMR vaccine into separate components and give them separated each by a year. However, a doctor can’t order just single doses of each shot through the regular channels. They have to get 10 doses of each, and if there are only one or two patients in the office that want them separated, the doctor eats the cost of the unused shots. So most doctors, understandably, won’t do that.

"Here are some ways that patients have found they can get the shots separately:

"1. Go to a vaccine clinic at a large university hospital. I know one near where I practice that offers them separately.

"2. Go to a travel clinic where people usually go to get unusual travel vaccines prior to international travel. Some of these carry the separate M, M, and R.

"3. Ask your doctor to write you a prescription for each shot and try to get it filled through a pharmacy. You would bring the shot back to your doctor’s office (making sure you keep it a refrigerator temperature – 36 to 46 degrees F or 2 to 8 degrees Celsius) for the nurse to administer.

"4. Ask for a prescription, but get it filled through an online medical supply company or online pharmacy. They can ship it directly to your doctor’s office (shipping isn’t cheap though). One such company that I know of is American Medicine, Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. You can find them on Google.

"5. Check out our Vaccine-Friendly Doctor’s list to see if there’s anyone within driving distance for you. They typically would need you to become a patient and get checkups there in order to provide you with vaccines.

"6. If you can’t find the separate shots anywhere, ask your doctor to start a list of like-minded patients and just skip the full MMR for now. Chances are over the next year or two the list will grow to include 10 patients. Delaying your baby’s protection for a year wouldn’t be too risky since the diseases are very rare.

"Cost – I know it costs my office about between 35 and 50 dollars for each vaccine, so you can expect to pay at least this much plus whatever markup your provider deems appropriate.

"Dr. Bob"

Best wishes!

I would call Ballard Pediatrics and ask them if they can provide them separately. I know several parents there are doing alternative vaccination schedules. I myself am doing a delayed version, but not separating the MMR. They may be able to help you out. S.

You might try Carol Doroshow. I'm not sure if she follows this schedule or not but it's worth a try to ask her.

My friend has a naturopath/chiropractor in northgate that she loves! I will take my kids there in time when we decide to do a few vaccinations. His name is Dr. David Ramaley. My friend's name is Victoria M. (Son Henry)if they ask how you found out about their office!

I am sorry, L.. But I do not have an answer to your question. Instead, I have a question for you! I have been looking into alternative vacc schedules for my two youngest, three and a half year old girl and my 14 month old son. I took them to a Naturopath recently for advice but left $250 poorer and with not much to go off of.
Where did you find the schedule and how has your provider been with adhering to it? I have found that most mainstream medical doctors do not want to hear it from the parents when it comes to immunizations concerns.
Thanks!

Please check with the King County Dept of Health Clinic and see if they offer it. The nurse practitioners administer at the clinic.

We have been following the single dose vials too and I'm glad you posted this question as a reminder to start looking into this for my son. :)
