Keurig. Yay? Nay?

Updated on June 24, 2012

I spend way too much money on my morning coffee, and I'm not going to realistically take the time to make a pot of coffee every morning. (And the coffee at work is nasty as all get out).

Is Keurig worth it? Does it taste good? What do you think?

What can I do next?

I LOVE MINE!! I think my coffee always tastes great. It is always very fresh tasting because it's sealed until you make each cup. There are tons of different types of coffee to choose from and I like that I can make myself a single cup of coffee FAST.

YAY YAY YAY! It is the best tasting home brewed coffee EVER! It's so easy and convenient. Worth every penny! We received one as a gift. It died after a couple of years and we had to go get a new one immediately. I cannot live without it!

Different flavor of coffee every morning for me. :) Its quick, easy to use, just a cup of it every morning and every now and then I'll make a cup in the afternoon for a pick-me-up if needed, its just sooooo convenient.

I love mine. I stock up on the cups when I have a Kohls 30% off coupon. You can also buy a refillable cup that you use over and over. If you get one, you need to clean it with vinegar every month or every other month. Also, make sure you keep the receipt AND register your unit by sending in the warranty card. I had one go out when it was almost a year old. Called them and they sent me a brand new unit. They no longer had my model so they sent me the newer version. It wasn't one that they had refurbished. I was very impressed.

My stepdaughter found it to be very expensive - anytime you are doing single-serve ANYTHING, it's costly. It's cheaper than Starbucks, but then again, what isn't? I'm not sure why making coffee in the morning is so time-consuming - maybe you can set it up the night before and just turn it on, letting it brew while you take a shower (or use a coffeemaker with a timer).

OMG got one for Christmas from my son. We absolutely love it. Cofffee is
out of this world. Now if you drink a lot of coffee can be expensive. We have a cup or maybe two in the morning and that is it. I wait for the Kuerig
sales because we like two particular ones but you can get some K cups
cheaper in the grocery store. I have not found any that I like except Dunkin
Donuts, and Kuerig Donut House and another. The name escapes me now.

I had a Keurig at my old work place and it was really nice. My hasband currently has one at his office and I use it whenever Im in the office. But just recently we got a Tassimo at home and I LOVE it. It does the same as a Keurig - ie. single cups of coffee but there are so many more options. The Keurig only does coffee, tea and hot choco but the Tassimo can make cafe style drinks from espressos to lattes and cappuccinos as well as all the coffee and tea you want. Also I found both the machines were about the same cost roughly as well as the cups

How picky are you about your coffee?

If you are only moderately picky (the coffee at work is gross...) then a keruig might be perfect for you. If you are fairly picky (my husband will not drink coffee that isn't "good"... he just won't. He'd rather not have it at all, if it isn't "good" coffee)... then I would not get one.

We do not have one ourselves. There is one at our church, and my husband tried it. We still go thru Starbuck's on the way on Sunday mornings, as our Sunday morning treat. Otherwise we make Starbucks or Gevalia at home from fresh ground beans.

For your purposes it is a good idea. I am not impressed by it and throwing those cups away make me feel guilty. Oh my brother has one so when we are over there, have a cup of coffee!!! Carl it is ten at night, DRINK! DAMMIT! Not sure if everyone who has them are so into them. He has mellowed after a year.

*considers if it is safe to go over to brother's again*

It is better than you will get in a cheap coffee maker with ground coffee. Not as good as grinding your own which is what we do.

If you are truly not going to set up your coffee maker and keep it up everyday, then yes, The Keurig is worth it.

When people ask you what you want for bdays, etc.. Yell them you have a Keurig and you would love some of the pods..

Purchase them on sale.

Also did you now if you have a service at work with a Coffee machine etc.. You can now request Keurig! Yes it is more than the Bunn units.. but no clean up! Every person gets a fresh cup of what they want..

I don't drink coffee so take this as is:

My mom bought my husband (a coffee drinker) one for Christmas and my husband LOVES it. He uses it for coffee and tea. And I've been fortunate enough to even use it for hot chocolate.

And my dad who is a HUGE coffee drinker came over and had a glass and said it tasted very good.

So, I think they would both say its worth it.

We love it, but we aren't heavy coffee drinkers (in fact I don't even like coffee, but hubby likes it). We bought a refillable k-cup, so we can grind our own. My husband can make all of his favorite flavors without the cost of the disposable k-cups. We also use it for the occasional cup of iced tea or hot cocoa with the kids. We save the k-cups for those mornings when hubby is in a big rush.

I love mine...

There a lot of different varieties of coffee, so depending on your mood you can have a differnet one every hour.

With my husband travelling it does no make sense to make a pot just to dump it after it sits for hours. SO K-Cup it is... it is fast, easy, no pots to wash or grinds to dump, just one itty bitty little cup. I like my Hazelnut in the morning, and then I have a Columbian decaf in the afternoon. ANd sometimes a decaf hazelnut in the evening...

If you are the type to buy free trade coffee they even sell that in k-cups...

And although it is more expensive, per cup there are websites that have great prices,. I use one called coffee for less, but I am sure there are a lot more out there.

I love it!

My MIL loves hers, but the unit itself is expensive and the single refills are also pricey. I'm personally a little put off by the single use containers that end up in the trash since I'm a bit of an environmentalist, but that's me. The coffee itself is delicious.

If any of you are watching your budget and want to cut back on expenses, save the empty k-cups, buy the coffee you like when it is on sale, refill the k-cups and recycle them for a cheaper cup of coffee.

You could open up a k cup, see where the coffee line is and mark it with a pen on the outside and then you'll know exactly how far to fill it.

BTW, I don't drink coffee or use k-cups. I was making suggestions from a bargain hunter's point of view. The companies that sell k- cups have had their profits increase by BILLIONS of dollars because people buy k-cups instead of coffee by the pound.

Good luck to you and yours.

My husband is the big coffee drinker in our house and he loves his Keurig! He liked it so much he bought one for his employees at work. It's really ideal because if someone wants decaf, no big deal, they just make theirs in decaf. There's no partially filled coffee pot sitting around all day. A fresh cup every time.

I've used it to make coffee for guests and it couldn't be easier.

Look at Costco for the k-cup refills. You can get some good deals there.

I still think Keurig is expensive, it comes out to around $.50/cup...so between my husband and I it would be around $2-$3/day (if we each have 2-3 cups) and as much as $21/week! Still less than going out, I know. I figured out that by brewing my own coffee (Folger's or Maxwell House), it was costing me a few pennies per cup...so much cheaper! And, it just makes me think of how quickly that $$ adds up and what I could spend it on instead.

We load our coffee maker up the night before, it's just part of the nighttime routine and literally takes 2-min. We then program it to automatically go off at 5AM. That way it's ready as soon as we're up.

We found ours to be worth it. We only get kcups when on sale, we use a reusable travel mug and set it in the might before, along with making sure T he tank is full. We keep fresh cream in the fridge. We usef to get coffe at 7/11 for about 1.70 a cup x2 per day. The kcups I have cost .44 each plus dividing the cost of the keurig/we have had it a year now. Our cost 79.99 after discounts at kohls. So the machine was paid for at the 90 day mark. The creamer costs about 15 per cup. So .59 a cup vs 1.70. The coffe is fresh, I dont have to wait in a line, it is the flavor I expected and I save the time going somewhere to get it. In summer it can do a quick tea to pour over ice, my kids makr their own hotchocolate using the my kcup. We like breakfast blends, donut shop, and nantucket.

The Keurig coffee is not very good - none of those instant machines make very good coffee, IMHO. I have a coffee maker with a timer. I can set everything up the night before and set it to start brewing right when my alarm goes off.

In your situation yes, it would be worth it. I don't like it as much as brewed but its not bad either. For the amount of money and hassle you will save you should go for it.

I've never tried it, but you can get a coffee maker with a timer so you make the coffee at night before going to bed and it's ready in the morning when you wake up. You can make a whole pot or just 2 cups, whatever you want.

I got one in December for Christmas and really enjoyed it. Then it started to be a problem. When I went back to using filtered water the problems resolved. It is great for one cup of coffee in the morning,
