JFF....what Are Some of the Things/lectures You Remember Your Parents Saying?

My 3 yr old was doing something earlier that I've repeatedly asked her not to so i started to scold her and said "H (daughter's name", ....." and she just finishes with "....how many times have I told you?" LOL took everything not to laugh that i say somethign so much that she already knew what I was going to say! :)

but, got me to fondly thinking of all the things that my parents used to say over and over again. For example, whenever we would yell "What?!" instead of coming when my parents called us, my dad would ALWAYS yell back "if i wanted watts, i'd get a lightbulb!" haha

What are some funny things you remember your parents saying?

What can I do next?

"It's not what you say, but how you say it, S. Ann! You better try again!"

My mom said this to me nearly every day from the time I was 13 until I left for college.

I now say it to my students (high school) whenever they get sassy with me in class. They hate it just as much as I did, but we all know my mom was right.

"Period! Exclamtion point!" Ha! I've used it so many times I can't count and I used to HATE when my dad said it!

I also vowed that I would NEVER use the whole "because I said so.." thing. yeah, until my 3 year old asks neverending questions....

Oh, and "Ok, Julia, (my 10 year old), let me be the Mom, ok? I can handle this. I see your sister getting into (insert crazy thing that my 3 year old is doing...)."

*If I have to come over there......
*If I find your gloves/lunchbox/shoes.....
*Whatever you say, if you it's nighttime (and it was daylight)....
*I better not find your shoes in the backyard instead of by the front door.
*Don't talk to strangers.
*If someone tries to grab you.....run and scream (had to use this once).
*If I have to pull this car over (dad only had to do that one time). :)
*Did you even look for your lunch pail?
*In response to "What can we eat? There's nothing?"......"air". ha ha
*No one's going to watch out for your best interests like your family.
*When I was 16 I wasn't allowed to drive if it was raining or foggy. When I told my dad he didn't want me to have any fun he said "Right....I just want to make you stay home w/me so you can be a pain in the neck for me all night just for fun." (point taken on that one although not w/o a little sulking. Poor dad.).

"Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall!" (we started finishing the second half of that when they started saying it.)

And...

"I'm going to be on you like white on rice!" (regarding grades and academic performance in school.)

"Be aware of the world around you". My dad said that at least twice a day every day of my life (or so it seems). Drove me nuts, I hated it. But as an adult I'm surprised at how unaware most people seem to be. And I've said it to my boys (but on purpose not in his tone of voice).

And the answer to "You know what?" was always "No, not personally, but I heard he invented the steam engine". I was very pleased to tell him in my 20s that Thomas Newcomen invented the steam engine, James Watt just improved it. Because....that's the kind of daughter I was. :P
