Hello,
I am going through IVF treatment now. I just had my egg retrieval done on 10/21 and they took 14 eggs. I was called yesterday and 8 of them fertilized. That was good news! I just am curious as to how many of you had IVF done and how many eggs they took and fertilized. How many embryos did they transfer back? I am guessing they will transfer only 2 of them back for me. Did it take on the first try for you? Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had the transfer done on day 5. I was left with four. Two of them were placed back and the other two can not be saved because they are low quality. The doctor said he thinks it's because I have poor egg quality. The numbers that we had weren't normal for my age of 34. I will find out on 11/5 if I am pregnant or not.

Hi S.,

I just went through ivf treatment this past may. I had 29 eggs retrieved and 17 fertilized. I am 31 so my doctor didn't want to put more than two embryos back. I had a three day embryo transfer on my first attempt. I happy to say that I am now 6 months pregnant with a little girl due in February.I do hope all works out for you and wish you lots of baby dust. Good luck G..

I also had it done. We were only able to get 5 eggs, 5 did fertilize but we lost one. They transfered two and we are the very blessed parents of one 11 month old son! It was our one try at IVF. My doctors did ICSI and we had the day 5 transfer.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!

We had 5 good embryos of which our doctor actually suggested putting 3 back in. We were blessed with my twin girls. This was our first IVF attempt.

Hi S.,
I had IVF Feb. 2006. I had 9 eggs, 6 fertilized and 5 survived until transfer day. I had three of the best quality ones transferred back because I was 39 yrs.old. It worked on the first try. Had twin fraternal boys on 10/7/06. You should be able to choose how many to transfer. Good luck to you my fingers are crossed!!!

I have 1 beautiful 17 month old daughter from IVF, she was born in May 2006. We had 10 retrieved eggs, 7 fertilized, and 2 grew normally (grade 8) and 1 grew slightly less than normal (grade 6). They returned all 3 only because of the only other one was a lower grade. I had a daughter in 2003 the good old fashioned way and they are both the most amazing things in my life. Good Luck to you!

Hello,
I had IVF done in 2004. Honestly, I can't remember how many eggs they got but 5 fertilized. I they suggested I only put 2 back, if I wanted to put more there were all kinds of risks and there was all kinds of crazy paper work... I agreed to just put the 2 back and then they told me that the other 3 really weren't worth freezing because they didn't fertilize properly. With that one try, I became the mommy of 2 beautiful faternal twin girls. You will be fine. Gook luck!!!

Hello, I had 14 retrieved, 7 fertilized and put the three best back in to get one boy, my friend had 11 retrieved, 6 fertilized and put 2 back to get one boy. I have several other friends how have had only one child through invetro and one friend who has twins on the way. With both myself and my friend it worked on first try, but problem was not with us it was with husband.

I had one IVF done , and have a 22 month old son as a result. I had 26 eggs retrieved and 22 or so were fertilized but at the end 6 embryos were useful. They put 2 back in and froze 4 (2 of which I'm in the process of using very soon). How many they put back in depends on the quality of the embryos, like how strong the dr. thinks they are. Both embryos that were placed back in for me took, and I carried twins for the first 10 weeks or so but only one of them went on after the 10th week. I understand that is more as a result of genetic mishap rather than the quality of the embryo. Good luck to you, the whole process was uncomfortable but at the end it's well worth it :)

Hi,

I went through IVF nearly 5 years ago. I was so fortunate that it worked on the first try and we were blessed with a beautiful, healthy baby girl. She just turned four in July and really is a blessing in every way. When she was 8mos. old, by some miracle, we became pregnant on our own and had another healthy, beautiful girl. She will be 3 in two weeks.

To answer your question, they retrieved 12 eggs from me and 5 fertilized. They put back 3 fertilized eggs that were the healthiest. Two implanted. For 4 weeks I was the proud mom of twins. We lost one of the twins at around 5 weeks of pregnancy. It was very difficult for me but we went on to have a healthy, fairly normal pregnancy that resulted in our daughter.

I would not change anything but it was a very difficult ordeal. I wish you all the best and hope you are surrounded by very supportive people. You will need the support physically and emotionally. It is quite a ride but soooo worth it!!

Good luck and keep me posted!
S.

I've had 3 IVF's and only 16 eggs for all three. First time, 6 eggs, 4 fertilized, 3 transferred on day three (two were good quality). The one not transferred did not survive past day 4 so was not frozen.

Second time, 5 eggs, 4 fertilized, 4 transferred (3 were good quality).

Third time, 5 retreived, 4 fertilized, 3 survived and were transferred on day 3(two were good quality). I am finally pregnant from this last IVF...one baby - 6 weeks along.

Work with your Dr on deciding how many to transfer back, ours was great with provding us the pros and cons based on our number of cycles we had been through and the number and quality of eggs. You also may have some to freeze and save for later which is great because you wouldn't have to have the retreival procedure again.

Best of luck!!!

Hi S.:

First, I want to say good luck!! It is an exciting but emotional time! I have run the full range of infertility "services" including IVF. I am grateful to tell you that I have 3 beautiful and healthy children. First adopted locally, second conceived by IVF (second round - frozen embryo) and third a total surprise!! To answer your specific question, I believe getting 14 eggs and fertilizing 8 is a GREAT number!! They will likely only implant 2 as any higher number carries a greater risk. I will keep you in my thoughts! When do you do the transfer?
