Infants and Pillows

my twins are 11 months old, they will be turning 1 year on Thanksgiving. One of the boys, "C", loves loves loves the throw pillows on the couch. anytime my toddler will put them on the floor or if he just pulls up and grabs one himself he just loves to play with them. He will lay on them, snuggle into one and just has the biggest grin on his face the whole time. Now, our oldest was about 1 1/2 or so, maybe a few months older, when we first gave him a pillow. I was wondering if any of you have your younger kids a pillow? It would be a very flat pillow not one that is big or anything like that. and before I get the hate mail and messages telling me how bad of a mom I am, I have not put a pillow into his crib, the only things in there are a bib and sometimes a toy to play with when he wakes up in the morning. So, what age did you give your kiddo a pillow and what kind was it? TIA!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies!! I was pretty sure I was just being a nervous nelly about the pillow thing. I doubt he would even sleep on it long, all of my boys are big time wiggle worms, they are all over the place. I have a couple of "good" thin firm pillows, I think i'll give him one tonight and see how he does. I should have thought about it before I put him down for his nap, i'm sure he would have got a major kick out of it. Thanks again!

LOL @ hate mail over pillows...

The girls were YOUNG when they went from crib to toddler bed: 9 and 10 months. They had pillows, like adult sized pillows.

My son is 22 months old and received a 'pillow pet' as a gift for his 1st birthday... he's slept with it ever since.

At 11 months, the twins can use pillows. Their bodies will tell them to move if they're being smothered... not breathing kind of pisses off little ones ;)

I think we purchased our child a pillow around 18 months old. We got her an actual child's pillow and she still has it at 6 yo and loves it. This is it:

mine was 13 months and he did the same thing your son does lol its so cute. but my husband was the more paranoid one and made me wait till then, i would have given him one more at 10 months. i bought him one off amazon made for toddlers...it was a giraffe looking thing and small...(kind of like pillow pets, but waaaaay smaller)

I think he was around a year old when we let him sleep with a pillow. He may have been a little older, but not much. That's also the same age that he started sleeping with his teddy bear!

I can't remember when I gave my daughter a pillow, she was usually sleeping in our bed with our pillows. I think by two when she got a big girl bed. I figure after around a year old or so.

I let my son start using a pillow after his 1 yr ped appointment. When he would be in bed when he was sick he would LOVE the pillows. I mentioned it to my ped and he told me it was ok to give him a pillow. I just bought a normal sized pillow at bed bath and beyond, I just made sure to buy a firm one. He sleeps so much better with a pillow!

The bib sounds more dangerous than a pillow, in my opinion!

My youngest LOVED it when I first gave her a pillow. I can't remember exactly, but I think she was 1 year old. She gave me a HUGE smile and said, "Thank you Mommy!" She's now 2 1/2 yo and she won't go anywhere without her pillow. She refuses to use a replacement pillow. She's obsessed with it! :)

Glad to see you didn't get any hate mail! ;) I think at 11 months it is also fine. I wouldn't do it much sooner, but that's just me, I'm weird about that stuff! My daughter was almost 2 when she first used a pillow but my son was about 18 months or so when he got a pillow pet from my SIL and he loves it! In fact, he has never used a real pillow, just his dog. Pillow Pets might be cute first b-day presents for them since you already have regular pillows to let your one son try. Good luck.
