I noticed saturday that my baby (7 weeks) has a lump on his head. Its on his head up from the temple. The only way I can describe it is it looks like his head is raised up or it looks like a knot but there is no bruise and I dont recall his head getting bumped. I am really worried about it. He has an appointment today @ 230 to see his doctor. I guess Im always thinking the worst. Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Ladies! Thanks for the advice. He has Torticollis. I will explain it the best I can. He basically favors his right side, he sleeps with his head to the right and always just has his head turned right. Even though right now Im looking at him sleeping and its to the left...lol. The doc said it could be when I was pregnant his head may have been smashed that way for a long time. Which makes sense because Im only 5'3 and he weighed 9lbs. He didnt have much room. He needs physical therapy because he is really only strengthing the muscles on the right side of his head and neck. She said babies like physical therapy, its like playtime. Some kids have to wear helmets because of it but I am hoping he doesnt have to! I was pretty upset about it but very thankful its nothing serious and can be corrected. We are blessed. Thanks Moms!

Molly,
How did the doc appointment go?

I know this post is a bit late, but if the lump just came up quickly, chances are that it could be a lymph node from an infection he is fighting, even if he has no other symptoms. It will likely go away on it's own. Getting it checked out is important though, so good choice!
I had a VERY lumpy head as a baby due to my lymph nodes. My poor mom was always worried. On the head They tend to run across the back of the head to the neck, behind the ears, in front of the ears, but they can "chain" in other places too. If you feel my head now, you'd still notice a bunch of small lumps (after nodes swell several times, they can stay slightly enlarged).
Let us know how the appointment goes.

I don't blame you for being scared. I don't know where all the lymph nodes are in the body. I took one of my daughters once and it was just a lymph node swollen from a virus.

Try not to worry. It could also be a small fatty deposit.

You have every right o be worried but it could be just a virus and a lymph node being swollen.I however never experienced this with my kiddos but I hear its not uncommon they disappear on their own

molly, i'd be totally worried too. but i can say that my brother's girlfriend's baby had a lumpy head (it looked REALLY freaky, like almost like she was deformed) and the dr. told her it was nothing, that she'd grow out of it. and she has! she'll be two in january. just try to stay calm till his appointment. stay positive. good luck!
