Round Balls on Sons Neck

I noticed that my two year old has round bumps on the sides of his neck right behind his ears and some on the bottom of his head at the end of his hair line. They are different sizes the biggest being about the size of a penny. They dont seem to bother him. I was thinking they might have bben from gnat bits but there is no puncture mark or blood like his other gnat bites have been. I figured i would hold off for a week and see if they might just go away but they havent and hasnt gotten smaller. Should I make an appt with the dr or just ride it out a bit longer?

What can I do next?

The could just be swollen lymph nodes from fighting off a bug, they could just be little sebaceous cysts, or they could be tumors (benign or malignant) or a sign of lymphatic disease.

it could just be swollen lymph nodes. my daughter (3 months old) has the same thing that you are describing and it worried me a lot at first (especially since its mostly just on one side for her) but then i asked her dr and she felt them and told me that its really common in babies and small kids and nothing to worry about, but i would still get them checked next time you go to the dr, just in case...

Most likely swollen lymph nodes. Is your child feeling ok? Getting a cold/cough, sore throat? I would take him to the doctor at the very least for peace of mind. GL!

I get knots like that and they are swollen glands. I would call the pediatrician and make an appointment just to be sure. I feel crappy when they are swollen up like that and I usually am about to get sick.

Go to the doctor just in case. There a quite a few infections that could cause that (I'm assuming they are swollen or something). He could have swollen lymph nodes (in neck) or occipital lymph nodes (back of head). Could be lipomas, just fatty build ups under the skin. And even though it's not very common, he could have lymphoma. Could be a sebaceous cyst. You need to take him to the doctor and get it figured out. It's so random what it could be that it's either harmless or dangerous, so best to rule out dangerous with a doctor's visit.

are they in the areas of lymph nodes?

Basically them being swelled means he is making a lot of white blood cells. This could mean he has the beginnings of a virus. bacterial infection, or has allergies. It M. not eve show up as him actually being sick! I would still go to a doctor but it matters on how long long is to you. If you are talking hours... it is one thing, if you are talking months it is another....

I felt those on my son, too. They are lymph nodes and his dr. felt them and said there was nothing to worry about. Just to feel better, have them checked out.

My son has severe allergies since about 2 yrs old it he has a ball on the back of his ears on his neck on both sides. Scared me to death! Pedi said it caused by the constant inflammation and nothing to worry about. Any little thing can cause them to swell.

It sounds like your son has swollen glands. These are lymph nodes that are meant to fight off infection. You might want to run it by your doctor, just to be sure. It is common when they have a cold -especially a head cold. HTH

My son had something like this last year after getting over a cold. The biggest one was as big as a pea. His ped said they were lymph nodes responding like they should, doing their job. They went down and came back again and I expressed my concern to her. She explained to me that that is how they are meant to work! You don't want them to just stay big, for too long. For your own piece of mind I would take your son in. In could be enlarged lymph nodes, but it could be bug bites! We have had a ton on mosquitos because of all the rain!!

Good Luck,

N.
