Take him off juice altogether. It imparts no nutritional value and rots their teeth. Neither of my kids drank juice and they are no worse for wear. Stick to water and milk.

My children cannot acidic juice either. No Apple or Orange definately. They are both very acidic. I give them white grape juice. Its better on their stomaches.

Hi A.,

Unfortunately the moment you cook fruit (as in pasteurization) it becomes extremely acidic so all juices are going to be high in acid to some degree- Not only is it h*** o* the stomach but high acidity in the body leaches calcium from your bones (to try and balance out the body's ph) In the baby isle there are some fruit juices (by Gerber?) that are modified to be less acidic for babies- I don't know what other ingredients they have in them though, if there's a lot of additives or not. I give my son Vitaminwater (by glaceau) which is also lower in sugar than juice without any artificial sweeteners (which are a toxic carcinogen, especially for kids-) My family doesn't consume any dairy so I still give my son juice (he gets bored with just water) but I mix it with half water and no oj or citrus's before bedtime. If you don't like the Vitaminwater brand there are other flavored water options but stay away from the ones that have any artificial sweeteners (they don't always say on the bottle so you have to look at the ingredient list). I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi A.,
first of all the doc is not your boss!! he gives you advise. you are in charge of your own child. "listen" to your child when it comes to nutrition. often if kids don't want certain foods they are in some way allergic to it! if he has reflux/acid problems give him somethingelse. as long as you keep an eye on the total nutrition. why milk if he can get calcium from bread, potatoes and whatever and protein from meat and eggs. and why juices if he can get his fibers from wholewheats and his Vit.C from vegies and fruits. If your son grows normal and develops normal I wouldn't worry too much.
good luck. D.

Hi A.. I wish I knew which juices were low/no acid, but what I suggest you do is call back your doctor's office and ask, being that the doc is the one that recommended it their office should be able to give that info to you... Good luck!

Definately stay away from citrus stuff and I've found with my little man that peach bothers his stomach. Apple juice and pear juice do well for him. You could probably also do a google and get a list somewhere.

Though I do not know where to find such a list, I do know you should stay away from Citrus. Orange, Pineapple, Grapefruit, mixtures there of, they are all very high in acid. I would imagine that apple or grape juice would be alright, they are common ones that are made for babies, there should actually be a group of juice in the baby section of your grocery store, look at what they have in them. Those should be fine. I would suggest calling the doctor and asking, after all, that IS what he gets paid for. '

Also, some juices are made lower in acid, it would be listed on their labels. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Gerber makes organic juices with no added sugar and low acid. Any grocery store should carry them. I'm warning you though, the bottles are not that big and they cost up to $4.00 each for about a quart so make it last :)

pear and white grape juice are good, but really, kids at that age don't need juice just water and milk. it's bad for their teeth anyway....

almost all guices are high acidic, so the best thing for you to do is buy (non-citrus) juices and dilute them with water. I don't believe there is a list, so it'd be difficult to find one. Your best option would probably to look through the juice aisle at your local store and see if they have anything that states low/no acid and go with that, or just dilute. Try juicy juice also. Those juices are made for young children so they probably have a low acidic level. You could call your ped and ask them about that!

I've seen Tropicana oj with low or no acid, dont remember which one though. I know its Tropicana though. You can ask your doc for a list or look it up online, do a search.
Good Luck!
