So What Happened?

Well I am using the Gerber Juices, the non citrus ones. My Dr. said it was up to me that i could give him 2 oz of juice a day to prepare his tummy for baby food we started this at 10 weeks. Of course the juice is watered down. He is now 14 weeks and he takes still 1 bottle of 2 oz juice and 2 oz water a day of the Gerber juices.I am using this as a in between feeding thing. For ex. if he eats at 12 and gets hungry before 3 then i would i would give him some juice. I would never replace his feeding with juice. It just kinda gives him something to wet his "whistle". I don't think this is to early, after all most Dr.'s recomend starting cerel at 4 months you have to prepare their tummies somehow. Thanks for all of the good advice...

The BEST juices are (from "What to Expect in the Toddler Years")
Orange juice
Papaya juice
Pineapple juice
apricot nectar
mango juice
vegetable juice (v8 splashers are great!)
& "other" 100% fruit juice/nectars w/ the exception of apple

Good afternoon S.. From experience I give my daughter Juicy Juice juices. They are made from 100% real fruit. Non acidity. Also, if I wanted to give her any other juice I make sure I dilute it half and half. Juicy Juice is the best because it's practically made for children. And the children get their recommended daily doses of fruits from it.

The biggest thing is to avoid the acidic like you said. Orange, tangerine etc. The gerber juices are especially nice for when your out and about but can be tighter on the budget when used all of the time. My daughter usually drinks apple, white grape, cherry, and fruit punch from Juicy juice diluted. Also, be careful of juices that contain strawberry because it can be an allergy producing food. We've struggled with food allergies here so my little one hasn't had strawberries yet in any form and won't till she's at least two. You can pretty much play around with the juice you give just monitor for adverse reactions just as you would any food. Prune juice is also great for constipation.

I agree, no juice is supposed to be given to a child under the age of 6 mo. Preferrably not until they can hold a sippy cup. The bottle allows for large consumptions and when they get older, a greater chance of cavities. I would definitly not recommend you to give your child juice right now.

When my son was younger (hes two now...wow hes grown) I gave him the mixed gerber drinks like apple/banana and apple/cherry and strawberry/banana which he really loved them all. gerber has the small bottles that you can just screw a nipple on or if you dilute (which i did when he was firt starting on them) they equal out to a nice serving for baby. i still dont give gavin acidic drinks often because of the risk of stomach upset. his favorite juice is still apple banana. he also use to like the gerber yougurt drinks when he was a baby.
hope that helps,
D.

Hello! I also think your baby is still to little for juice right now, but that decision is up to you. I use the Gerber Juice that you can get in the baby aisle by the baby food. It comes in individual bottles, and they're easy to throw in the diaper bag. Just definitly make sure you water it down first. Juicy Juice is good also.

Hi.

I only give my girls cranberry juice. NOT cranberry juice cocktail, just cranberry juice. I buy Northland or Apple & Eve brands. Sometimes at Publix the Northland is buy one get one free. I stock up on those days. I dilute mine too and it lasts much longer so paying for the good stuff isn't that expensive.

Oh, I only give the cranberry b/c it has less sugar and it's better for people. It has a "cleansing" property that's really good for our bladders!

I hate to disagree with your doctor but no juice is recommended at 11 weeks old. The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend juice or anything other than breastmilk or formula until 6 months of age. Babies and toddlers do not need juice....it is just sugar with no fiber (like the actual fruit has when the baby is older)and very little nutrient. For every ounce of juice you give her, you are replacing the nutrient rich breast milk or formula that your baby needs.

My son loves cranberry (good for the body) and the low-acid oj. Not sure your little one is old enough for either though?
