Juice Question Now :).

Do you cut juice with water? My kids love juice, but I'm not a huge fan of the sugar drinks. We cut out soda a while ago and they only get it for treats occassionally.

We used to buy a lot of OJ, but we cut back on that BIG time. We now buy Mots for Tots Apple Juice because it already has less sugar and Fruit Punch...but I have the kids cut both with water. They don't mind doing it, so why not? They use ice, juice, and water. They still get the taste, but not all of the sugar.

So does anyone else do this? My kids are 5, almost 7, and almost 9...so it's not like they can't have it. They were just used to it at little ones and we never changed it.

What can I do next?

No, 100% juice is not bad for kids. A serving of juice for most ages is 4-6 ounces though and that is where parents mess up.

Not anymore - my kids are 7 and 9. They only get juice once per day at lunch time. Milk (1/2 %) with breakfast and dinner and water the rest of the time.

My son is 4 and I still do this and plan to for as long as he lets me. Something my neighbor pointed out that I just didn't pay attention to. Mots for Tots IS water downed apple juice (check out the ingredients) so don't waste your money, buy regular Motts Apple Juice and water it down yourself, you'll get more out of a bottle and it will cost you less.

Yep.
We do %50 juice and %50 water for cider, orange juice, cranberry juice, grapefruit juice - every juice you can think of.
My husband won't drink it any other way.
Our son likes it that way, but he always like milk better.

Nope. We drink Sunny D (Smooth, Original and Pineapple), Cran-Grape, Raspberry, Apple.

We do things in moderation....so they get a mix of water, Kool-Aid, juice during the day.

We give our son juice but its always cut with water. He doesn't care and he doesn't get juice often. He prefers water so the juice is a treat. But he loves apple of course! But we give him apple-prune for his tummy woes and my husband gives him fruit punch or whatever kind he's drinking.

I don't see anything wrong with a small cup of juice (cut w/water) everyday everything in moderation right? But I guess lucky for us our son just asks for the H20! :)

I buy the Walmart brand "crystal light" type mixes. Their Fruit Punch and Cherry Limeaide flavors taste just like Kool-aid! And they even have a orange flavor that has a nice orange-juice sort of thing going on with it.

No sugar at all. Love it!

I mix in water since the all fruit juices still taste sweet... from the natural fruit sugars. My 2 yo old doesn't mind. My 5 yo is starting to realize some difference since she gets drinks outside of home more now.

My husband and I don't even drink juice full-strength, so my son thinks it's normal to add about 2/3 water and the remaining 1/3 juice. My MIL didn't realize we water it down and the first time she poured him a cup he told her "You forgot to add water." I also only buy 100% juice. He gets maybe 2-3 cups of it a week, so not very much at all. In total maybe 8 oz of full-strength juice per week.

Absolutely. My youngest doesn't know any different! The only thing I hate is when he gets a juice box - it's full sugar and boy can you tell after he drinks it! The oldest, 15, has started to complain that our juice tastes awful. He drank it that way fine for many years - I just stopped hiding the fact that I dilute it so now he swears he can tell. I told him I am happy for him to get a job and buy his own. Otherwise, you get what you get!

My kid doesn't really drink a lot of juice. He's never been a fan of orange juice. He likes thinks like V8 stuff, if any juice. But maybe a few small glasses per month. I don't see a need to dilute it.
When he was a toddler I did mix all juice (apple pear grape) 50/50.
Now, he mostly drinks Capri Sun Roaring Waters, or iced tea (homemade with sugar) or water or milk (skim, organic) We drink a lot of water.

No I don't but we don't buy or drink very much juice. They have a tiny bit of orange juice with breakfast (their choice, I'm not stopping them). I pack capri sun flavored water in their lunches, or waters, or milk. After school they usually have a glass of milk with a snack. For dinner we always do only water. My kids are 11 months (doesn't drink juice yet, actually had his first sip this morning), 4 yrs old and 5 yrs old.
IF I buy more juice, they will drink more, (apple juice, grape juice etc) so I don't.

Ever since my son (who is now 5) got juice - it was half water...and still is! In fact, he doesn't know what it is to have "whole" juice - if he ever had some, he would probably wonder why it's so heavy or sweet! In fact, since the arrival of my son, both my husband and I also do our juice, half water-half juice. AND, when we have company over, and offer them juice - same way! Nobody knows the difference and we've had many compliments on how good our juices are!

I too water down my daughters juices (except her smoothe juices). She does not like soda or anything too sweet and I refuse to give her anything that is for dieting (they all contain chemical sweeteners). We usually get Juicy Juice or Mott's for Tots.

I have recently started getting my hubby to drink water with some lemon slices. He was drinking at least 6 cans of diet soda a day (BLAH!!).

I do home daycare and never ever buy or serve juice for my daycare kids. I figure parents serve it, so I do not. They get milk with meals, and water for snacks and any other time thru the day. Boring!

Personally, I LOVE ice cold apple juice for me! Its a treat I buy for myself sometimes and will buy the small bottles (a 6 pack) and will refrigerate it then pour one of those lovely little bottles over ice! Its probably the ONLY thing I drink ice cold (my poor sensitive teeth can not really handle the cold coldy cold..but with a straw I can hack it once in a while!)

I water down all juice for the kids. I usually buy the v8 v fusion and the fruitables so they are getting some vegetables too! I also try to limit to 1 glass of juice a day then water or milk. Mine arent big milk drinkers so they usually want water.

I have always cut juice at least in half with water, but usually it's more like 2/3 water, 1/3 juice. I've done that since the beginning with the kids and the only time they get whole juice is usually either at a restaurant or the occasional juicebox. My husband and I drink it cut down with water too. I like it better that way (most juice, esp grape juice, is way too sweet!) and so does he. Plus it makes a container last a lot longer.
